Hughes 220-50 autoformer

I am thinking of purchasing a Hughes auto former for my Berk. Can someone please answer the following question.

Is this a good unit?
Does it also look after spikes in power or do I also require a surge protector?
Without an internal install .... how can I secure the unit

Tim; there was a thread (not too long ago) where the merits of the auto-former and surge protector was heavily debated. The consensus was to use a surge protector (like from Progressive Industries) first and then a auto-former if one found much camping with low voltage. If I find the thread, I will post it.

I use the Progressive EMS-LCHW50, which is hard-wired in the compartment where the transfer switch is.

ALL auto-transformers sold today include surge protection, power monitoring, and voltage regulation.

The best one made (ever, IMO) is (I think) not being made anymore (Franks Autotransformer) as no one is answering his phone. It had the highest surge protection and two stages of boost.

My review (which includes specs on other makers) is here http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ers-26202.html

The thread you pointed me to recommends using the Hughes along with the progressive EMS.

What does the EMS add to the mix other than a whole bunch of digital displays?

Do I really need this ... or is the auto former with surge protect enough for 99 percent of cases

The following topic has 110 posts to it....

Surge Protector... booster... or both?

Most posters to that thread use the EMS. For sure the Autoformer follower by an EMS is great, but really isn't needed. The EMS protect against low and high voltages. Granted it will not adjust the voltage. Check its specs. here...........

Progressive Industries RV Surge and Electrical Protection industry lea

A missing neutral at a campsite post will put 240 volts on your appliances.
