No I didn't reinforce the shelf. Instead of bolting it down I attached it to the base with 3 in wide velcro all over the bottom. Cleaned the shelf and the bottom of the safe with denatured alcohol then applied the velcro tape to the bottom of the safe and then set it in place, pressed down and then up on the shelf. Believe me, that safe isn't going anywhere!
