Inverter Breaker

The little breaker on top of my inverter keeps tripping. It controls a couple of outlets and the TV in the living room. I don't have much plugged into it and don't have any more load on it than normal. It is tripping at least once a day. Any ideas?

Might be a long shot, but check you wires in the circuit breaker box, with power off ( disconnect from shore power) take cover off and check the connections on the bus bars. We had some come loose and almost had a fire. It all started with us having power problems with the tv outlets and power not getting to the inverter.

I'll take a look. It started the first night out on this trip after a short storage(3 months). I thought the problem was the heater we had plugged in. I wonder if it's the new Magnum controller we had installed with the new batteries. I haven't figured the control out yet. Could be a problem with it.

Would doubt it's the new controller; it is simply a re-plugging from the one taken out. It's exactly like unplugging a land line phone from the wall jack and plugging in a different phone.

Unless the tech did something else, the problem starting when the new control was installed is probably just a coincidence. JMO, however.

And BTW, that new control is pretty complex. I'm still learning about mine after having it almost a year.

Boowho??

Thanks Boo it hasn't tripped for two days. I did turn the shore power to reflect the 50 amp at Tom's suggestion. It was set to 30 amp. I have a lot to learn about the controller.

Our local mobile tech who does our service also said another nice thing about the upgraded Magnum controller is having the ability to dial it down depending on your shore power that you have plugged in. For example, he said if you were temporarily stopped somewhere (friend or relatives house, etc) that did not have an RV power hookup then you could actually set the Magnum shore power control to 15 amp, use an adaptor plug for your power cord and just plug in with a normal heavy duty extension cord. He said of course we shouldnt run our A/C units, dryer or too many other high drain things at once but should at least be able to have lights and slowly charge the batteries which is better than nothing. Without having the ability to dial back the shore power setting he said the inverter and battery charger draw so much current that it would not be a good idea to plug in anywhere with less than at least a 30 amp hookup. I havent tried it yet but if true it is a nice option to be able to safely plug in anywhere for just minnimal power and save battery drain in a pinch.

That is a nice feature. I haven't had a issue after turning it to 50 amp
