Inverter question
I have my berk at a campground been there since Jan 5. anyway, we were there for a week, then came back home. I went back down last week and occupied it for a week, paid my electric bill, $135.00 for 2 weeks of use, but we left the coach plugged in while we were gone. shut everything off and hit battery disconnect and the electric meter is still spinning like a bat out of hell. You can hear the magnum inverter/charger humming. this doesnt sound right to me, just leaving the coach plugged in should not cost that much in electric? or am i wrong. any ideas?

IMHO unless there are extremely inflated usage rates on electricity I cannot understand that many KW's of electricity used in 2 weeks. Unless...you are running a ton of strip heaters. I would opt for an amp draw measure on the electric service if possible. You could figure the amp draw based on your converter and do the math.

we left the rv plugged in fridge on while we were gone. rate is .13 cents a kwh

I leave mine plugged in at the house 24/7 and never noticed a difference in my power bill. Fridge stays on and never turn the batteries off. That does not sound right at all.

should the invert button be lit or not when plugged in.

ok, turned off everything in the rig, turned off the disconnect by the door, rv shut down but plugged in - used 22 kwh in a 24 hr period. why would the inverter be using so much energy? what else could it be? any ideas?

Someone plugging into your exterior outlet to run their A/C or furnace? Someone is reading the wrong meter, it's rigged, or someone is pulling off your shore power. As you described it, it's nearly impossible for your rig to be pulling 22kwh's in a 24 hour period.
I would flip all of your breakers off and let it sit another 24 hours plugged in, or simply disconnect your shore power all together and see what they try and bill you for.

Scott, Did you turn the three switches off in the battery compartment? I believe that Ed (Wnytaxman) had a weird draw like yours when he was plugged in for winter storage. I don't believe he ever found the source, but I do know he ended up replacing all of his batteries. As they failed. Craig

If your engine block heater is plugged in and the breaker on, it will consume a lot. It does not use the batteries, so the battery switches do not come into play. The block heater plug is in the rear compartment where the transfer switch is.

i am not with the rv right now. does anyone or can anyone post a pic of the block heater plug so i can have my sister check the unit to see if its plugged in.

it is turned off, propane instant hot water, no tank. alll power off, disconnet switch off.

The block heater plug is in the same compartment as the 50 amp cord and inverter. It is a outlet and a plug. If the plug is in the outlet, this would explain your drain in power. Unplug it and all should be well.

so, figured it out, thanks for the help. turned everything off, power disconnect off, coach used 23-25 kilowatt hrs in 24 hrs. Checked the block heater and it was plugged in.
Unplugged block heater, everything off, disconnect switch off, 24 hr usage was .8 - 1 kwh in 24 hrs.
