Just went to buy a tag for my Birkshire.....

In Alabama they go by the list price rather than the price paid to calculate the tag price. The tag and tax was 3500.00 this didn't include a two percent sales tax ($1800.00) which Lazydays sent to the state of Alabama. Total tax and tag $5300.00. Probably cost me a couple of thousand because they used the list price rather than the actual price paid. A little frustrated today!

List price !

Born and raised in Alabama, now I know why I left the "HEART OF DIXIE" for good old Florida. No state income tax here, my tag for my 8285WS was
less than $50.00.

Hey BamaCorner
You got over good. In Georgia it is .07 to the State. Then we have to pay a road tax plus tag. My total will be 8,190.00. Plus the tag. After the first year it will be around 1400.00 per year. It decreases as the valve drops.
Life is good.

Colorado is 3.9% sales tax, ownership tax 2.1% of 85% of MSRP, then decreases to 1.5%, 1.2%, 0.9%, 0.45% for 5 yrs, then $3/yr. Can't wait for yrs 10+ !!!! Oh, there are also some weight based fees, another couple hundred bucks per year.

Indiana is 7% sales tax. they also go by MSRP to figure the plate fees. I also paid another 300.00 in taxes to my township.

Wow, beginning to feel pretty good about my cost....

of the tag and tax in Alabama. Daisy, when I was complaining to the sales person at lazydays he made a statement that we have all heard, "they are going to get you one way or another." He went on to say that tags are cheap in Florida but they make you pay a pretty hefty property tax on the MH. Oh well! Just need to think about how much fun my wife and I are going to have.

Strange, When I registered ours, they used the bill of sale price to assess the tag and taxes. I wonder if that changed in the last few years. I know they use the blue book value if you don't have a BOS or if the paid price is a lot less than the blue book.

I neglected local taxes in CO since I live outside city limits, but that could be another 3%, depending on your particular city. They always get the taxes from you one way or another. If I still lived in TX, there would have been about 3.5 to 4 times as much property tax, a little more sales tax, and no state income tax. At least we are allowed to pick where we live and thus the taxes we'll pay...

In NS, we pay 15% sales tax and to register the camper with the Registry of Motor Vehiches, we pay about $100 annually. We also pay 15% sales tax on all goods and services and about 30% income tax plus taxes on any property we own. And they say healthcare is free.

In Sask if they taxes are paid when buying it (GST and PST, gov't and provincial) then you dont pay anything extra. Now you buy an out of province car, you pay the PST cause its already had the GST paid. If you buy an out of country vehicle you pay both taxes + air tax + tire tax + emissions tax (based on make/model/engine) + broker fees..

Long live PA!
6% sales tax on the purchase price.
tag is $10 for physical plate, paid just once (or you can transfer one if already have one)
Registration is $12/year.
If you have brakes or the trailer is over some weight then you need annual safety inspection, $15.95 most places.

No other costs or taxes or fees. Prices are the same whether it's a homemade trailer or a $100,000 10 ton trailer.

In New Hampshire it cost us $700.00 for our 2902SS trailer. We our Governors nick name is the "Taxinator" . We may not have a sales tax or income tax but we get taxed heavy on other real estate and other "hidden fees"

In MI we pay a 6% sales. A MH is based on value at time of sale and never goes down.
Mine will be 850 per year for ever.
A TT is a one time plate good as long as you own the TT.

Tennessee is 9.25% - 9.75% (depending on your County) of the actual "out the door" sales price (less trade). That is assessed on the the first $5,000 then drops a few points on the balance. Since I traded, I only had to pay on the difference between the two units (saved me the taxes on the $15,000 allowed on the trade). Then you can buy regular tags at $24 per year, or get the permanent tag for about $90 and it never expires.

I opted for the permanent tag this go around. If I keep the unit more than 4 years I am saving money.

Bamacorner Something doesn't sound right. If you look at the Alabama DOR website

ADOR - State Tax Rates

the state taxes on a vehicle purchase is 2 percent. So the money you paid at Lazy Days should have been close. Yes you would still owe the tag fee and the advelorium taxes but they are not 3000.00. Around here a couple of years ago the were charging by the MGW of a vehicle and then chrage the commercial rate. Much higher more of what your talking about. It might be worth checking into.

Can we delete this thread please, I'm afraid there may be an Ohio politician lurking on here.
We pay a tax to title the RV based on the county rate in which you live that ranges approx. 5.5 to 7.5%, this is a one time (first time fee) based on the actual cost, then we pay the state 24.50 each year for plates which includes a 5.00 road tax.

You're right! The cost for a TT plate in Michigan is a good deal. The charge for my MiniLite was $200. for a lifetime plate.

Guess what Folks? No matter where you live, they're gonna get you! People kind of forget that if you want goods like roads or services like police and health care, then someone has to pay for it. Sadly we have to pay and pay and pay. Here in NY we pay a very high (8.75%) sales tax but low registration fees. Oh but wait, we have fuel taxes that are among the highest in the US. You're going to pay someone no matter what.

There's an expression, "Don't tax you, Don't tax me, Tax that fellow behind that tree."
