LED ceiling lights burning out

Just bought a new leftover 2015 40RB and since delivery we have had the dealer replace 10 or 12 of the LED ceiling lights, at no cost to us. I thought LEDS lasted a long time? Has anyone else had issues with the ceiling lights.

FR has had a lot of issues with their LED lights in some models. The issue is not the LEDs themselves, but the cheap driver components used in the module. The replacements seem to be better and have not had the same problem.

All the LED's are made in China. What type / size do you have? I bought enough to do my entire trailer for less than $20.00. Unless your dealer is next door, just buy 20 of them and save the gas money.

Had similar in our FR Travel Trailer, sadly. Second trip out, after only 8 total days, light died. Seems the quality of the pieces being sourced is less than, stellar...

Thanks for the replies. I was told by the dealer that they aren't just replacing bulbs but the light unit itself is bad, just as Fly bob said. So I guess I'll just let them keep replacing the units as they go bad and hope the replacements last. Eventually I will get there....Dave

Cool

LED technology is very sensitive to over voltage.

Those failures may be the result of faulty LED drivers, your inverter or AC 'shore' power voltage surges.

"I bought enough to do my entire trailer for less than $20.00" How many would that be and where did you purchase them?

LEDs

Try Amazon, they have every application available. Their prices are unbeatable. Shipped to your door, with in a couple of days.

I haven't picked up our new to us 350TSSE, but I have a box of LEDs coming that I ordered on Monday and they will be here tomorrow. I don't even know if they are the right ones. If not throw them back in the box and send them back. They even pay for the shipping.

They have a pretty large RV dept.

Keep in mind... many of the newer rigs DO NOT have replaceable 'bulbs'.
These lights have a LED wafer that is built right onto the the light base and soldered to the fixture. Without becoming 'ingenious', you can't simply replace the bulbs with a handful of $20 replacements from Amazon.

5picker has a good point. At least on the 2015 -2017's there is no bulb type of LED to replace like you could in say 2011-2013. The ceiling lights are a modular circuit board with LED's embedded on them like his picture. I had most of mine either go out 2-3 LED's at a time or burn up the wiring going to the circuit board and blow the fuse. Factory just sent me a pile of new ones. 3 screws ... 2 wires and it's changed out.

I have 5 lights to replace (1076) over the island and dinning table that I can not get the correct LEDs to replace what I have. I have ordered twice on Amazon what was to replace a 1076 and I migrated all the other bulbs to LED with no issues... what's up with the 1076?

Thanks

Well now I know that for some unfathomable reason Forest River decide to go with a totally proprietary lighting system that can not be repaired but replaced only. Interesting.

You may want to walk a dealership lot or two. FR isn't the only manufacturer that has gone to the potted LED's on circuit boards. Keystone, and Jayco to name two more.

Alot of the LED bulbs are not worth beans! I was talked into pricey LED bulbs for a kitchen remodel. They cost me over $40.- a bulb and was told they would last fifteen years. Two years later they all started going out. The lighting store wouldn't honor the warranty. I went to another specialty LED bulb store for replacenents. I was told that most of these bulbs are junk and don't live up to the claims of longevity. That really made me angry! Forty dollar light bulbs that really only last two years and I had purchased eight of them!

I went to LED because they don't put out the heat that a normal bulb does.. and cost.. that is why we have "Al Gore's" internet.. LOL! I found some awesome prices on Amazon.

Had some burn out reverse polarity was the culprit. White wire susposed to be ground but could be hooked up backwards.

As 5picker pointed out, the lights the OP is referring to are not individual LED ( bulbs) but rather a module with several LED chips and associated drive circuitry, The components used for the drive circuity is of very poor quality ( cheap) and can not handle the heat they generate and self destruct then the associated LED chip goes out. I suggest if you start having the problems, you ask the dealer for enough to replace all your modules at they will all eventually go out.

Don't go out and buy a bunch of LED lights. Give Andy a call at FR diesel and let him know the issue you are having. All overhead lights come with LED and a bunch have been bad. Newmar also had a big issue with this. Likely the same supplier. They are easy to swop out. Her are the contacts you need also find us on FB. Click image for larger version

Same problem on our Legacy. The units actually had a soldering issue by the manufacturer. Far agreed to replace them but my dealer wouldn't order the replacements unless they were going to install them. After past experiences with the dealer, I wasn't about to take it to them (six weeks and destroy who knows what in the process!). Waited until the one year factory warranty was out, then contacted ITC directly. They responded overnight and shipped me new lights within a couple of days. Turned out that 19 of the 21 lights in the coach were bad. Look them up on the Internet and submit the contact forms - good folks!
