We just got back from the Taxslayer Bowl in Jacksonville. It was cold that week of New Years. Three nights in the 20's. As I am new to this I was concerned that items in the water bay might freeze and possibly break. I left the light on in the cabinet, but I did notice, at one point, an ice cube in the strainer of the pump that lives in that cabinet. The underbelly is heated, of course, but many pipes are exposed in the outboard bay area. So, my question is to you all awesome cold weather RVers is: How LOW CAN YOU GO?

Well, that is a good question, and one more reason I just traded my 2015 Coachmen in on the FR Berkshire. My coach does not have the heating pads like the new Berkshire will have. I forgot to make that clear. I was just wondering if there was a limit that some of you have experienced in cold weather. I was thinking maybe 20 degrees or lower might be possible with the Berk. I was thinking about a low night time temperature that you might have experienced with no problems. One night we camped at an RV campground and did not hook up the city water, thinking the external hookup would freeze. That was in South Carolina. The bottom line for me is the beautiful wife will not camp in any weather without the full use of water in the coach. So, my overall question is how low can the temperature be and still go camping with the Berk? Thanks for your response. I have learned a lot on this Forum already. Much appreciated. Bobby J.

Bobby J, what's with the Lions? There is no definitive answer to your question. Temps. in the 20's, perhaps you can deal with. You need energy when in the cold, so I would avoid boondocking - you need electric.

I camped in a winterized campground I the 20's, that had the water lines heated. I rigged up a water hose with heat tape spiraled around and then encased in a insulation tube.

There are several recent good threads regarding dealing with the cold. Most have given suggestion for the water bay. I feel the weakest link is the lines to the rear, such as for the rear bath (if you have one), the water heater and the clothes washer. I am not sure how they can be heated. Periodically, flowing water in the lines, helps to prevent freezing.
