Love Bugs / Florida
We're heading down to Florida soon and I was wondering if the wonderful love bug season is here yet? I used to live near Daytona Beach and it was two times per year when they would surface.

Not yet. Had a little cold front (40s) this week and a few days of 50/50 rain forecasted this weekend. They will blow up when we get the next 2-3 day warm up.

I think they must have come up something that attacks them. They certainly are not as as bad as they were years ago. Let us know exactly when you plan on passing through, will try to save you some.

Here in the Cocoa Melbourne area we had a little run with them in mid February of all times! Not too bad but enough to piss you off. Strange, never saw that it the almost 38 years we have lived here. Maybe we are done with them already (fingers crossed).

Drove to NW Arkansas from Orlando last week and didn't see them. Usually in April and October though it can vary a month farther out.

Had to look them up, looks like it's bad twice a year.
Wonder if they die with a little smile on their face.......

They only appear to smile....as they eat their way through the paint, clear coat and all. NOT nice critters! Stink to high heaven and very acidic!

killed the first one today just north of Tampa Bay ... but we did have them come out in Jan while camping at Ortona in SW FL due to the very warm weird winter we had ....
Just finished prepping the trailer for the music festival in Dade City, FL in 2 weeks ... suspect they will be present

Spray the front of your rigs with Pam cooking spray... Wash front off at end of day with warm soapy water and - presto - no love bug problem....

We had them in south central Florida in late February. Maybe 1st week in March. Weren't too bad -but after 50 miles the front of the car would be black. And it's a white car !!

Of course, gotta ask, have you had experience with doing this?
My experience with doing it was an oily mess. Went thru a rain storm and it got on the windshield and smeared all over everything. Took me longer to clean it all up that it would have to just wash them off. I've learned to put a good coat of wax on the hood, windshield(rainx) and front of the TT. Wash them off ASAP before they bake on. Or better than that, don't travel when they are looking for love.
I guess the OP was asking if they were out yet? Let it warm up a bit and they will. Usually May is not as bad as late August around here.

Love bugs are normally May and September.
Allow time after each day traveling to wash them off your TT and TV.
I have fought them for years and found that plenty of water and a brush works the best for me.

Drove from Sebring, Florida to southern Louisiana last week. Only saw 1 during the entire drive.
I have heard that using a dryer sheet to wipe the front of the coach works, but I won't try it because I don't want to scratch our diamond shield. Also don't want to get stuck with that waxy film from the dyer sheet all over the front of our coach. Soap and water is usually your best bet.
Good Luck!

I haven't tried the dryer sheet trick yet but I have read that you can use it on the windshield. Just wet it and scrub. I keep the washer fluid on the wipers full and they even make the kind that has an additive in it for bugs. May be just a gimmick, don't know.
