Macerator Pump

I'm thinking of buying a macerator pump does anyone use one. I'd like some input from anyone. Ease of use how far it will pump what type of discharge hose and what ever else I may need to know. Thanks Jim

Macerator pump

I have a sewer port in the rear of my lot. Total pump out distance is about 130 feet. I have had no problems pumping at this distance.

I have the portable FloJet Macerator pump that attaches to the TT black/gray discharge hookup. I use it at home with a 75' 3/4" hose to empty and clean tanks following a trip. Hose attaches to an outside septic tank clean out. Works very well for that purpose.

I found that it was a bit noisy and took too long to use at a campsite, so I don't take it with me anymore. Emptying with the regular slinky is quiet and fast. Macerator would be advantageous, however, if you encounter a site with an uphill run for your sewer hose.

I installed a waterproof 12V receptacle on the TT just above the discharge hookup and a marine plug on the Macerator for convenience.

I also have the flowjet portable. I use a 3/4" hose and run it 125 feet to my septic system. It works great. On longer trips, the rest room facilities are often used. Since I have this, I no longer have to worry about a partially filled tank sitting in the yard for any length of time.

It's also great if I want to take my time and do a thorough flushing/cleaning of the tank.

You won't be sorry.

I too use it at home to dump in the sewer. I had it connected to the berk for use all the time. However, I found it to be a pain at campgrounds. It's very slow to drain and the macerator clogs easy.

We have one on our Entegra bus, and we love it. No mess takes a little longer to dump but no mess.

It's not fun!! The blades can get clogged with hair ect. When that happened to me I had to close the tanks then remove the macerator connection. Yes it was full and under a little pressure👎. Once removed I had to remove the blade assembly, clean and reinstall. I removed it soon after that. I found not only the clogging issue but it took a while to dump a full tank. I only use it on return trips home for a final dump before storage.

Jim check out Rich's post. He just did a nice install. I know he HS been researching this item for a good while. I would bet he did it right and found the best unit at the best price.

YouRoo - what brand do you have? Has it ever clogged? (Doubtful if you are grinding up corn cobs LOL)

Some wire in a 12v connector near the sewer lines; I made a line to run off the trailer's 7-pin connector.

I also bought a clear elbow to go between the macerator pump (aka poop cannon) and the drain so I can tell when the tank is clean. Yes, ew, but very useful.

A note about the backflush port. It will...
  • allow you to push clear water into the tank to help flush more of the solids out
  • allow you to clean out the hose between the poop cannon and the sewer point
  • make you think, for a moment, that your tank is sparkling clean (until the water starts to murk up again)
It is NOT a tank rinser. If something is stuck in the tank the flush port will probably not remove it. The best way I've found to do that is occasional use of a spray wand directly down the toilet (and regular use of the Geo Method.

JD,
Can't use a spray wand in a Berkshire. The drain pipe goes down may 4" and makes a sharp bend toward the tank. But, we do have built in black tank flushes.

You know, that is wizard YouRoo! I wonder why these $300-400 macerator pumps are not based on a garbage disposal?!

But, like Tom says, we don't need them - the black tank flush works perfectly.
