Slightly OT, but hopefully close enough. I store my carbon filter in the home fridge in between trips as a way to keep bacteria from growing in it. A wet filter stored in a hot/warm basement for a few weeks will grow stuff. Carbon does not necessarily kill bacteria as it filters out elements in water.

Sorry I was up in the Black Hills with limited to no cell or Internet service to reply to the responses of my smelly hot water. When I drained the water heater all kinds of gunk came out and the rod was all slimy. I rinsed it out the bed I could and replaced the rod. That solved the problem once I get back home on Tuesday I will clean the whole water system.

Thanks for all the help

Glad it was a quick fix. It’s best to not let water sit too long in the hot water heater.
