Need tires - Advice

We purchased 6 new tires for our Revolution from Wingfoot. It's a division of Goodyear. We felt we got a really good deal from this company (tire brand is Kelly Springfield) and they mounted and balanced the tires as well. We took the coach in that morning and picked it up the same afternoon. Not only did we feel we got an excellent price on the tires, they even paid us $110 each for the front tires. We had checked prices at three other tire places and no one offered to pay us for the tires we were replacing. We highly recommend checking with this division if there is one in your area.

Go with the FMCA tire program. It looks like the best out there. On my old Pace Arrow I used a product called Sun Block on the new tires and we sold the coach 55K miles later with no cracks what so ever on the Tires. Long conversations with the Michelin people the secret is you have to drive the coach to activate the chemicals in the tire that prevent the cracking. We used our coach once a month no matter what, even if you just go down the road 20 or 30 miles and come back. A long time ago when we first started RV'ing , an old RV'er told me if you don't use your coach at least once a month, you can site in a chair in you drive way and watch your coach break down. I thought about getting the tire covers, then I thought would you put the tires in a oven. Also, a good rule after 5 years start looking around at tires to replace ones you have.

Before I head out from Florida to Indiana for the rally I want to upgrade my truck tires from the OE. Current size is 265x60x18 Michelin. I want a heavier tire with a stiffer side wall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would ask a few tire sales like discount tire and others you can try www.michelintruck.com . You may want to get there hand out guide for proper use and maintenance/ RV tire information.

BTW it took over 4 weeks to get our tires in after we ordered them so plan ahead since the tire dealers usually don't hold 6 tires that size.

So it sounds like I should upgrade to 275/80-22.5 for all 6? There will be no rubbing issues and nothing to change?

You will need to have the computer re flashed. It is also a good time to upgrade the front airbag. It will give you a 12000 lb front axle instead of the 10500 you have now. I believe and Freightliner Oasis dealer will have the info or can get it.

So my next issue is tires. I currently have 24k on the coach but the sidewalls are cracking. After seeing that video of the coach that blew a tire and flipped. I think I should get new tires - at least steer tires. Some research I've done points me to:

Hankook
Yoko's
Double Coin
Michelins (standard when I bought)
Toyos

Of course I want to save some money yet want to be safe. Looks like prices range from $450 to over $600 per tire. I know there are a ton of threads out there. I'm curious if anyone has bought tires recently. This is what my rear tire looks like now and the fronts are similar.

I do not where you look for tires, Costco is best shop for tires and please keep that in mind MICHELIN is
always first all others are the second.
BTW first thing to do before replace
tires check wheels alignment.
When you do that inflate tires with nitrogen ( Costco do that w/o asking)
because nitrogen is stable on all temperatures and when you check the
pressure you do not need to do so
when tires are cold.

Good info, but if any of my tire sidewalls looked like any of the pictures, they would be replaced. If I couldn't afford all 6, the coach would sit until finances allowed replacement. JMO

As a side Costco will order the tires for you but the few I have asked about it do not have the equipment to mount and balance a 22.5" tire. Tire rack.com is also a good source for tires.

Am I missing something here this is a Berkshire forum which has truck tires 22.5". Costco and tire rack in my area can not handle an RV that size nor can they torque 400+ ft lbs as far as I know.

That's why I said that Costco's can't do installs but can order the tire for you.
Also this is not a Berkshire forum it is a FROG forum and has users from every segment of FR product line. It's not always apparent what products we are talking about when the topic shows up on the discussion board. There are a lot of cross over areas so you can learn a lot by reading other discussions. In this case someone made a good suggestion about buying tires that may not work for a MH.

you can order them from discount tire or Western tire, or anybody else and I know Big O can mount them.

Dumb question on my part. Is the steer tires different than the drive tires? When I was quoted at TA for grins they quoted steer and Trailor tires.

On all the Berkshire they are the same for all 6. Not sure on the Charleston's. Some of the bigger rigs use different sizes.

Motor Home should be all the same.

They are not all the same on all MH's.
