Onan generator
I just have one question about my generator on the 2015 Berk 400QL, its the 10k . When i start in the morning cold it clicks like the battery is dead. Then I turn on the motor it cranks like a big dog i let it run a few minutes and then try gen it rolls over and starts a little rough but secs latter is purring. Is that normal?? It njust makes me so nervous that I am going to be on the road with a dead generator and I leave for Cali next week. Thank you All in advance.

How long are you holding down the switch? Think it is nomal for about 20 seconds until it gets primed and kicks on and a bit longer when cold out.

well i was holding it down on gen rocker switch in cockpit, the lite would flash of and on then stop. I think i may have Automobile syndrome thinking ill ruin the starter. because when light would go out i stopped. That might be my problem right there. whew and I thought getting a P3 Orion airborne was tough LOL

The clicking is the fuel pump priming or the glow plugs.
Just hold it and let it click for 10-30 seconds and the starter will kick in.
ETA: holding down (i think down) is just priming only and will not start.
Holding it up will prime for a while, then the starter will kick over.

I know that my Genset runs with fairly heavy oil. Cold weather starts can sometimes be a little rough initially. If it looks like a little extra juice is needed on the start I will often link in the chassis batteries. This never fails to put it over the top

Ya most generally don't want to listen to the dealer!! I just hold in on the top of the rocker switch till it starts. Will click for awhile. Then starts. Yes it's just a bit ruff running for the first 20 or so seconds.
Good luck.
