Onan Generator maintenance / engineers!

Ok, so today we got a break in the weather and I decided to go out and service my Onan RV QD 8000 Diesel generator, I was going to change the oil and filter, only changed the oil for the moment, someone thought it was a good idea to mount a bracket over the cover that you have to remove to gain access to the fuel and oil filters! [emoji15] this bracket has a roller mounted to it, BUT ITS RIVETED TO THE FRAME UNDER THE GENERATOR! Am I missing something???

Also, the frame under the generator covers the COOLANT DRAIN CAP! Smdh........

Still not sure how I’m going to go about gaining access to the oil and fuel filter just yet......Click image for larger version

Looks like it has bolts in addition to the two pop rivets?
Assuming that bracket is not holding up your generator, I would cut the Two pop rivets.
I'm not sure what you mean by it has a roller mounted to it.

Maybe use a star wrench To completely remove the cover then.

Open or close the generator door enough either way to clear that bracket.

^^^^^^ What he said. Slide the generator so the door clears. Squeeze the two buttons, the other side lifts out. Once you figure it out it takes less than 5 seconds.

There's also a spark arrester to clear out.

There's a bunch of REALLY good Youtube videos on servicing these units.

Haven't messed with my coolant yet..... And your setup could be different than mine... So it may not be "that" easy to get the door unobstructed. If you do though, yeah you're gonna feel stupid. How do I know? Haha, i took those star bolts out the first time before I figured it out....

i can't tell for sure but the generator may be on a sliding generator tray and the bracket you mention was added to keep the sliding tray in place. it mnay be as easy as disconnect the bracket and slide the generator on the tray out for service. if this is possible then you can get to the stuff you need to get at.

I had the exact same issue on my 2018 38A. After trying to figure it out, I woke up and discovered that if I just slid the generator back in about 5-10" everything would clear. Yes, I felt like a real dummy.

The part number on the air filter in your picture is the correct number. Mine uses the same filter. I have not found a source for it other than Freightliner.

Freightliner should be able to look up the water separator based on your vin.

Yes, Freightliner had some funky air filters made, that don't even show up in the DB of the people that made them!!!!! (I talked to them)

My story here:
