Overhead Fan

Now I'll be the first to acknowledge that I haven't completely read the tub full of manuals that came with our recent purchase. Somethings, however should be intuitive, like the overhead fan in the kitchen/dining area. Crank open cover, turn on, watch all those pretty little blades spin around. Not so with mine.

After looking at the fuse located on the fan, checking for another fuse and turning it on and off a thousand times I gave up on it until I had a little more time. In discussing the fan with my nephew he advised his fan had a thermostat. What??? Why a thermostat. And where. His apparently is located on the fan near the fuse. Not on mine. He comes over to check out the new toy and see this mechanical thermostat located above the fancy Dometic digital. He asks about it and I suggest it for the furnace. He disagrees and says it's for the fan. Yeah sure I say. He puts the thermostat on 70 and promptly turns on the fan and it starts spinning away. I guess that's the next manual I'll read followed by the Dometic manual.

Interesting, I wonder why the fan needs a thermostat?
The A/C and furnace is easy but a fan...
Anyway glad it got figured out.

If you just move the thermostat to the lowest temp and keep it there, anytime you ope the vent it will turn on. I leave it at the first fan speed and as soon as I get a turn on the know it turns right on. You could set the temp if you wish and leave it open and on at all times and would cycle to keep the motorhome cooler. I never use it that way though, only turn it on when I am opening and closing the slides (if my door isn't open) and when we are cooking inside (helps take the smell and heat out).

I usually leave it opened when we have the air on and are leaving for a few hours. Just in case the air goes off to help keep it cool for the dogs. Jim
