Protecting the Toad
We just picked up a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for a Toad. What are other Wrangler owners doing to protect the paint and windshield from rock damage while underway?

I don't have protection but should as I have a crack top right and 2 stone chips in the windshield. Maybe a bra to protect the front and a padded cloth locked by closing the doors for the windshield.

I didn't use protection once and ended up with twins. Oh wait, wrong kind of protection and it was 40 years ago.

I use a Road Master Guardian. In three years of towing, not one chip, scratch, ding, dent, nothing.... Excellent product and mounts right onto my Road Master base plate.

If the rubber on the bottom of your full width mud flap is ragged, it probably has been whacking road debris as you drive. It needs to either be raised or some rubber cut off. This isn't a perfect defense for your toad, but it gets rid of some of the offense.

I don't use any kind of toad protection, I have no chips in the paint or in the windshield from towing, my JKU is lifted 3" and has 35" tires on it so it sits higher up than most toads.

I tow with a dolly. Last year I was going down a dirt road. Had the sunroof cracked open on the toad as it was hot. I get to my place and get the car off the tow dolly. I look up at the sunroof and this is what I saw.
Apparently a rock got popped up by the mudflap and hit in just the right spot. I have heard from some that they remove the mudflap if driving on dirt roads.

I had one on my Celica. Gritty sand got underneath and were it moved from the wind, the paint was dulled. Hope that you have better luck.

Protecting the Toad
I'm using the Blue Ox Kar Gard II. Works great, super easy to use and rolls up to store right on the RV. All you do to install it us switch out two bolts on the tow bar, then slip the mount around the tow bar receiver tube. To use it, just unroll it and slip two brackets over the pins, insert the locking clips.

Not sure that will work Ina Berkshire. The rear exhaust will melt the fabric.

The full width rubber mud flap is all you need.... grass skirts or partial flaps are an other story

I disagree. I've picked out too many stones from the gutter below the windshield. Not to mention pock marks on the front of the Lincoln MKX.
