I have the Rand McNally 7710 GPS with lifetime maps it works great. I did use a Garmin GPS before the Rand McNally unit. The Garmin had the 7" screen so in our Ram truck I did not want the display mounted on the dash or in the window. I made a stand for the unit that sits below the radio. See picture attached, this could work for you.
