Confused to say the least? Didn't know any Berkshires built on a Diamler truck chassis, thought all were on a freightliner chassis.

Received our letter about the recall yesterday. "a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on specific Freightliner Custom Chassis motorhome chassis manufactured March 10, 2015 through January 14, 2016, with certain Detroit front axles" This letter was sent from Daimler Trucks North America LLC but when we called the number they offered for "any questions about the recall" we were told:

"So far No One from Daimler Trucks has any info on the recall other than to tell owners to "not drive the MH or drive with caution" He said "someone sent the letters out before they were supposed to" ????

No One from Detroit Diesel has any info on the recall but said "repair facilities should get notification about repairs by Thursday.

No One at Forest River has any info on the recall but is looking into it.

No one at the 2 repair facilities I called have any info on the recall in their systems.

If I get any more info I will post it.

There is nothing written anywhere in the letter we received that says anything about "the recall will start July 4th"
If there is a defect it already started...........

Detroit Diesel has serial numbers

I talked to DD this morning. They checked my vin to get my axle serial number, then checked that serial number against their list of recall numbers. We are not included, according to the person on the phone.

I just contacted FR and FTL. FR told me that it looks like only about 6 of their units are actually affected, but that the list is not finalized yet. My VIN did not appear on the "known" list. I called FTL to see what their list says and they told me that they are still working on going through the VINs and that a list should be finalized within 1-2 days. I am going to be calling back on Friday to hopefully find out for sure.

Karen,

Did you give Freightliner 24/7 a Call?

They should be able to look up your axel serial number by VIN and tell you if you are in the affected group.

We already know we are in the affected group. Now we just have to get the repair done.
