Removing wheel cover

Stupid question but how do you remove the wheel cover ? I thought the fake lug with the dimple held them on. No go have tried everything.

I have two of them on each cover. Take them off and entire wheel cover comes off.

I usually place a rag over it and then use a large wrench and it works without scratching them. That is for my front ones... I've yet to remove my rear ones yet, but would assume they're the same

My largest wrench I have here is 11/4. I have the T wrench but it's to big. I'll try the rag idea under it.

When they took my covers off my last motorhome to rotate tires, I watched them use large vice grips with a rag. Worked for them so that's where I got the idea of the rag so they wouldn't scratch the Nuts.

Phil,
Weren't your wheels, tires and air bags upgraded by Forest River? If so, do you should have aluminum wheels. If you have aluminum wheels, then you need to remove the chrome caps over each lug nut by pulling them off with a pair of pliers or maybe even just by hand.

Tom I still have the wheel covers. They wanted 1500$ to upgrade them and I'm to cheap. I borrowed some channel locks and got a good grip. They won't budge. I tried all four and no go. Gaffney must have put them in with a impact wrench and lock tight. They just won't move.

Dicor sell the "T" wrench for the simulators and can be ordered for about $10 or so.

My MH came with one but it's a POS. I put channel locks on it and used my foot to push down no go. I beat the locks with the hammer and still no go. I thought it might be left hand threads but it won't go.

They are pretty stout covers. If you have to try using a 24" pipe wrench. I'm floored that they didn't budge with a foot and channel locks. Wow that's on there. Good luck.

I'm so PO'd at these covers. I have one more idea and I would guess that the nuts will be junk by the time I get them off. I called a truck tire dealer and I think I'll have aluminum wheels put in tomorrow. All I wanted to do was put my new TPMS on and I can't get them on with out removing the covers.

Lloyd that must have been Dick getting in the rum again. I'm down at Hidden Ridge. Here is a picture. It's not anything compacted its straight forward ro move the two fake lugs and the wheel cover comes off. The problem is they don't want to turn and I'm limited on tools here.

That looks like the type you pry off with a big screw driver or a pry bar.
Looking down right next to the tire can you see a thin gap between the cover and wheel?

It seems to me that if you try to loosen those nuts with a T wrench that is too large and try to make it work with a stuffed rag, you'll only ruin the flats on the nuts and will only compound your problem. I would try a half inch socket that fits properly and place a pipe on the end of the wrench for more leverage. Is there anyone at the park you're at that can help in the tool department?
