I don't have a residential refrigerator but I know it's been a issue so I thought this could help.

Only problem is if you drill holes in doors while product is under warranty manufacturer can void warranty. Once it is out of warranty go for it.

I don't believe that is a issue because they come from the MH manufacturers like that. They would not void a warranty on new products. I would think that all manufacturers would be putting these on the doors. It's a cheap fix.

I was told that by a FR executive that Whirlpool is not supplying product with any locks. Other MH manufactures are adding them but apparently not at the approval of appliance manufactures according to my source.

They are definitely added by the RV manufacturer not The fredge manufacturer. Whatever I can't imagine a problem with the case of the fredge if you use silicone. No reason it would effect the warranty of the compressor and that is what is sure to be the warranty item. Whatever I am just passing the info on and don't have a residential refrigerator and don't plan to add one.

Understand your post not finding fault with it or your reason just adding what I know about it for information only. Appliance manufactures will try to find any reason to save from paying a warranty claim even if the fault is unrelated to the problem. Again according to my sources and dealing with the appliance industry for many years.
Any latch to keep the product doors from opening in motion is great I just don't want anyone from being bit by the manufacture without checking into it first.
Unrelated to the latch I was told that because MH manufactures add the fixture at the bottom to keep the fridge from moving if you have to have service done on it you must first remove the fridge from the mounting and roll it out away from its normal position crazy.

YES! Thank you! I saw these on Winnebago coaches at the Phoenix Good Sam Rally and have been wanting to find one for our fridge since then. The bungee cord method has failed us a few times, plus it's a pain to hook that up.

Before I order this, does this come with installation instructions or may I ask how you installed yours? My husband just started at me when I said I think he'd have to drill into our fridge (drilling holes in stainless steel is not one of his strong suits).

I don't have a res fridge but was just passing on info. I wouldn't hesitate to install one if I did. Put a piece of tape on the bit so you don't go to deep. U.S. A bit for SS but this is a very thin SS sheet so it should be easy to drill. I would dap the hole with silicone and install the screws. It should be a simple install. I don't know if it comes wit instructions or not.

Thanks. I think we'll order it and give it a try. I'd much rather have this than the bungee cord contraption we have going now.

I would be very leery drilling into the refrigerator. Don't know what is in the doors as far as wires or tubes. But that said, I don't believe the refrigerators we have are stainless steel. I think they are stainless colored steel. I have a thermometer which shows the temperature inside the refrigerator and freezer and it is held on to the door by magnets. True stainless steel is non-magnetic, which make me believe that it is not true stainless steel.

If not SS just drill through the steel she'll. I would guess a 1/16 of a inch and again put a piece of tape 1/16 inch from the end if the drill bit to control depth. Nothing is in the door closes to the edge and you won't hurt anything. As I showed pictures the Manufacturer's are putting this same latch on residential fridges. Use a little silicone to reseal the hole.

SS come in several different grades. The better the grade the less magnetic it is. I would guess judging from all the pictures held by magnets on our fridge it's a low grade SS.

So, how would we use this on the bottom freezer door?
Any ideas?

Dan it looked like the same latch mounted on the side. I didn't get a picture of that. Stop at a dealer and check one out. I think it was a Integra or a Tuscany that I saw them in.
