Route Information

Anyone driven the route between Cody, WY and Buffalo, WY?? Hwy 31 or hwy 16???

On paper it looks like I can drive from Cody on hwy 14, then at Greybull drop south to Basin then connect with hwy 31 at Manderson down to hwy 16 at Ten Sleep (love that name) then go west on hwy 16 into Buffalo...

Anyone done this route in a class A pulling a toad??

Three years ago I went to Yellowstone, Took highway 16. Berkshire towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Construction was the main issue though it was steep. I asked in Cody about alternate ways back east and they told me even with the road completely tore out (dirt road at the time) 16 was the best for grades so I went back that way. I remember one switch back that gave people problems going west but not east.

Be advised, there are only two seasons in WY. Winter and road construction.

Silver....

In 2013, I took my Berkshire pulling a Mini Cooper up over Monarch Pass (11,312 feet) so unless there's something higher on Hwy 16 we should be able to make it with no problem....

Side note: the road South from Flaming Gorge in WY to Vernal, UT (Hwy 44 I believe) scared the crap out of everyone in our coach. When you approach the decent and there's a giant YELLOW SIGN the size of my MH that warns that for the next 5 miles there will be 7% grades and 9 SERIOUS switchbacks it WILL get your attention. Quietest my wife was the entire 5 week trip... When I finally got to the bottom, I was ready to kiss the guy that invented the engine brake.... We laugh about it now (well maybe the wife doesn't) but no one was laughing then.... My butt muscles were worn out by the time we got down.....

Wyoming has 9 months of winter, and 3 months of bad snowmobiling!
Beautiful north though.

In 2012, I did the route you mentioned, but going west. With my 2012 340hp with a toad, I had no problem. I do not remember any construction then.

Since then, I added Allstays "Trucks & Travel" and Camps & RV to my I-Pad. They show the worst grade between Ten Sleep and Buffalo to be 5-7% grade. I did do a 10% grade elsewhere in Wyoming that if I new ahead of time, I would have avoided.
