Slide out cargo tray

I've been thinking about the 1000 lb people/cargo weight limit on my Berk and how to deal with that.
Has anyone considered removing the slide out cargo tray, and how much weight would this free up?

Thoughts?

I would bet that would save a couple hundred of pounds. I also removed the 1/2 inch particle board cover under my bed. I figured just dead (20 lbs or so) weight and I know not to put things there. There was a metal screen covering my inverter (and before the systematic police chime in it is called an inverter by Magnum Enegery) that is also gone. I go through the coach every spring and ask what can I remove for weight savings.

I know I don't have a MH but as silver has said I try every year to get a little lighter. Lighter weight lawn chairs, a gas grill /stove and a very small charcoal grill and just as much charcoal as we need for that trip. We didn't need a kitchen service for eight cut that to 4. Pots and pans aluminum and just the basics. Water Hose was a big item i got rid of, kept 50 ft of white hose but got rid of 200 ft of regular hose and got 200 ft of that light weight expandable lost 30 lbs doing this. Expandable works great for filling water tank without moving to get to spigot. Next weight loss wil be tools and setting up a basic tool kit bet I can loose 30 lbs there.

Same here, but i bought that rubber Expandable hose, looking at the box it said DO NOT USE FOR DRINKING WATER BY HUMANS. So I don't use it. Maybe they made one with out the chemicals the use for the Expandable part. Will use it to wash RV. Tools broke it down to what i need for basic work. I try not to carry to much Junk.

That's what the weight sticker on the screen door says.

The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never excess 1022 lbs

Not yet, planning to do that before I hit the road. Will the truck weigh stations let me weigh there?

Yes they will. One payment is usually good for the day. That would allow you to get weight with empty water and full water. Full fuel ect.

We don't drink the water from any hose we bring 5 gal containers of water from home also like we treat black and gray tanks I treat fresh water tank always add a little chlorine whenever its filled.

Oh yes, my yellow sticker states that the combined weight of cargo and passengers should not exceed 1,344 lbs. It also cautions that a full load of water will be 716 lbs. So as I figure it, after putting my DW and me in, there is enough capacity to carry a lunch bag.

However, I did have my tires up-sized and front suspension capacity increased to 12,000 lbs.

I mentioned time after time in this forum that everyone should get their rig weighed, loaded.

FR selects a Freightliner chassis which will carry loads; but then they keep piling weight on top of it. Originally there was no tile floors. Tile is heavy.

Even the new tag axle with over 4,000 lbs capacity has this capacity diminished when you put 200 gallons of fuel I, 126 gallons of water and a full load of passengers. - Hank

My tires are rated for 5600 lbs each, don't know yet about the axles, and haven't weighed yet but will when I pull out of the patk

Losing Weight

I conferred with my DW about how to shed a few pounds and she told me to stop drinking beer! Guess the rig is going to stay heavy.

My Berkshire has 100 gallon fuel tank and a 86 gallon water tank. Is yours different. I would never drive with a full tank of water extra weight.

Hi all, just thought I would throw in my 2 cents. I took the coach to the CAT scales at a truck stop here in Ontario and I thought I was getting close to the max but not so. The coach had almost a full tank (100 gallons) fuel, 2/3 tank of water, all the normal camping stuff, DW and I but no food or extra clothes and mine weighed 9100 lbs, front axle and 16900 lbs, rear axle. I have a max rating of 29500 with the mercedes engine in a 2008 Berkshire 360QS so I was quite surprised that I have over 3000 lbs of cargo carrying capacity. I have upgraded the tires from 255/80r22.5 to 275/70r22.5 and I don't have to run as high pressures for the max weight and it makes for a more comfortable ride.

You must be running helium in your tires and probably do not have a ceramic tile floor - LOL I have the tire and axle upgrade, which is great. - Hank

We dont eat before hauling... saves a good 5 lbs there...
and the Air in the tires @ 80 lbs of pressure each
possible more savings if you take one roll of TP instead of trucking 4 or 5 back and forth.
