I assume packaging mostly. With the engine and all of its accessories, it's much harder to find space to put all the cylinders and mechanisms without hitting a hot spot.

jj,
The motors on the two slides are different. The motor over the bunk is a combination motor/gear box. Take my word for it, you don't want to try to change the motor over the bunk. One of the cables on my '08 coach snapped and it almost killed me when I changed it. If you have to change the motor/gear box, you would need to attach all 4 cables and then adjust them. They have to be adjusted just right because of the pull/push operation of the cables.

Kherm, I had a similar problem with my sofa slide. Here is the information that Imposted before on the issue: How to burn out the hydraulic pump motor on a Berkshire. As a follow-up, I did get some slide creep occasionally after they fixed the valve and replaced the pump, after I burned it out. I ended using the slide locks through the winter when I traveled. Recently I have found that there is no more creep (hopefully I'm not jinxing myself by saying that) on the sofa slide and I stopped using the locks. I assume whatever air was in the system, left. Hope that helps. Craig

Overall, I'm very happy with the fit and finish of the Berk. I think FR diesel division does a great job of building a coach and fixing any would be issues. This is by far the best built camper I have owned. Just don't want any lurkers to be scared off due to a few mechanical issues that other products face as well. House on wheels.

Craig Thank you reds your previous remarks! ours is the full body slide, locks not provided on Coach? Husband is asking where did you set these locks. If we could lock it we could then drive it to have it looked at. Still waiting for Forest River to get back to us.

Kherm, My slide locks were under the bed. There were two long one and two short ones. I placed them at the two ends of the slide. They are rods with feet type pads at each end. You twist them to increase their length. I was putting them near the bottom of the slide. See pictures: Click image for larger version

Tom- Thanks for the info, Now I know that I won't be fixing this myself. I live a long way from any dealers, so this is a huge pain for me.

I thought all the Berkshire came with them. I wonder if your dealer kept them. I have never used mine.
