Slide topper

Has anyone had to replace their slide topper?

While heading out Thursday night I noticed our wardrobe topper was flapping in the wind. When I pulled over, it appeared that something must have broken in the spring mechanism, as the topper was still connected at the roof and also at the roller.

Our was installed with the carefree toppers and need to find some where to purchase on line. Installation does not look that difficult.

Earl, Relaced all four of ours. Ordered the material from Tuff Top Awings online and material looked better then what was there before. Two person job, two ladders, but was not hard to do. Took two of us about 2 1/2 hours to do them all, faster with each topper. We had one that began to rip, but the the cost, we could replace all four for what a deal would have charged. they also have video online on how to do it.

Thanks - but I will need to either replace the spring assembly or buy a new topper. One side is still attached to the coach and the other is still attached to the drum, so I am assuming the spring has failed.

Earl, Just looked online and Carefee has instructions on how to replace the springs. Looks pretty stright forward, just takes two people.

Best of luck

Were you driving in windy conditions? Two years ago the topper in my sofa slide did the same thing as we were driving across Kansas in a strong cross wind.

Carefree makes slide covers that go on the underside of the slide toppers that prevents the wind from bellowing the topper up while driving. After I replaced the topper I put the slide covers on all 4 of my slides and did not have a problem crossing Nebraska and Wyoming in very heavy winds this year. You might want to look into them for the future.

I bought them through a company in Southern California that sells Carefree products. (Carefree does not sell to consumers directly). The whole set of 4 were about $950. TMMAR do you remember the name of the company???

Tried Dometic anti-billow device?
https://www.amazon.com/Dometic-31092...anti+billowing
A couple of month ago this anti-billowing part broke on the awning on my Solera (class "C" MBS). VERY heavy winds in Saskatchewan. My awning started billowing severely. I tied it up with bailing wire until I got to an RV place that had one in stock - replaced and installed all the mounting screws (believe Forest River did not install all the screws - allowed it to bend and subsequently break in severe wind). Replacing this part solved my issue with billowing.

EJM,
The company that sells the slide covers is:

Shade Pro
9448 Bond Ave
El Cajon, CA 92021
619-328-1620

I dealt with a fellow named Justin. Don't know if he is still there. Very easy install but it does take 2 since a couple of them are long. 2 years ago I paid about $850 total with shipping.
