Anyone? Hello has anyone had step problems? Ernest? Hello Dan ? Anyone? Hmm I guess not.
Well that's good news.
I do from time to time. I think it's the magnetic switch that gets stuck. It hasn't happened much so I haven't dug into it yet.
Sorry for the SA comments. Just giving some guys a hard time.

I haven't had problems with them not opening but lately I have heard that their retracting is delayed. Not sure why this would happen.

Phil- did you get batteries for your TPMS and if so, did that fix the issue?

steps berkshire

I was going to keep quite but realized that was not me.
To answer your question lets just say almost every day. Motor has been changed as has the door switch. Problem of not stoying or extending still happens.
MH goes back to factory next week and only thing left is controller but I
am hoping they change step.

Seems like a recurring problem but just when you think they won't retract, they do. Very frustrating.

Hi Steve - Welcome aboard! I have "Coach Step" made by Stromberg Carlson, but sold by LCI. You first need to determine if you have the Coach Step or Kwikee, also sold by LCI.

If you have the Coach Step, maybe the problem that I had is also yours.

My problem this summer was that the step tried to go in and out, but struggled and then would call it quits. I removed the linkage to the gear plate and also removed the motor. I could not budge the gear plate. After digging into how the gear plate is secured, I found that the motor's mounting plate has a welded bolt that sandwiches the gear plate and is torqued down with a threaded cylinder (on top of the frame) which is welded in place.

So if you ever had to replace the gear plate or adjust the torque, the weld would have to be ground off - Dah!!!

I tried to get penetrating oil, silicone oil in there with great difficulty. I then beat on the gear plate with a mallet and block of wood. With a lot of beating on it, if moved but not too readily. I made it go a couple times back and forth, but could never move it by hand. I figured that the gear/motor was some brute, because it did move the steps somewhat beforehand.

So, I put the linkage and motor back, the gear/motor brute moves it like new. The step does not have end stop switches. I figure its controller measures the torque by current and shuts it off that way. I no longer leave my step switch off and step sitting in one position for a long time. It needs to be exercised. This may or may not help you. - Hank

Haha,
I'l afraid I'm not much help on the problems.
My issue was that it would delay several seconds then retract after closing the door. I think a few others had the same issue.
At Goshen 2014, the Lipert guys got under and fixed it in less than 5 minutes.
I think it was just a bad ground, but not sure as I didn't ask for details.

A little lube goes a long way. Lots of road grime in that area, keep it clean and spray it down with some type of lubricant.

Don't get me started on problems with Berkshire steps.

I went through 4 steps in three years. I can honestly say however that it ever failed to open. In my case the step would ratchet as it opened and closed. The motor was replaced 3 times before Lipert finally relented and replaced the entire step assembly.

I was totally frustrated and looking to replace the step with anything other than a Lipert step. Lucky for me this new step lasted a full year without failing ... will keep my fingers crossed.
