The DEF tank is not only on the wrong side, but having the door open upward instead of sideways, it is difficult to get a jug in to pour. I have been using a funnel with a hose and two people to do the job. I also have resorted to pulling into diesel lanes the opposite way
After three years of wrestling with this, I have an idea on how to make the job easier. I was thinking of installing a small $20 self priming diaphragm pump (5 L/min) in the hydraulic compartment. 12V power is there, which is great. I was planning on a momentary switch to control. Again, the doors opening upward would mean that if the hydraulic pump door was open, one would have to stoop below it. To alleviate this, I was planning on extra length tubes and a switch on a line so that the hydraulic compartment door could be lowered, but not completely closed. Another thought is to install a water resistant box in the DEF tank compartment to house the pump (little more difficult).
Has anyone done something similar, have suggestions, or even a better idea?

I'm with you... Not sure why they did this... I'll like to switch a battery component with the def tank. Or a transfer or fill pipe from the proper side.

works great and I pump it right out of the DEF jugs that it comes in
I'll take some pictures, but I went totally "manual"
1. I bought a shower suction cup to hold a wide mouthed funnel
2. I bought plastic tubing to extend down to the DEF tank
3. Pour DEF into the funnel and fill up the tank - one man operation <$15
For times when I am at a fuel stop that has DEF pumps. I just pull forward and use the DEF pump that faces away from my PS. The hose is long enough so I can pull it around to my coach and fill the tank.
I found that the truckers are really nice and don't really have an issue with my going in the 'wrong way' when I tell them that is what I need to do to fill my DEF.

When I go in backwards, I first go in forward to one of the outer lanes. I stop as normal, just opposite them diesel pump and then go outside with several orange cones. I place them about 10 ft beyond the toad. I do this so that A 18 wheeler doesn't pull in behind. I then drive out and make the 180 where ever I can. Then pull in backwards at my reserved spot. Fill diesel, then pull further in to fill DEF. Orange cones are still out there to keep 18 wheelers from thinking there is an open
PO 185 uses a battery operated pump which he says works great. I might consider this over my idea of a built-in pump. Lot of good ideas here.

I have not done this yet, but plan on using to transfer from gallon containers of oil, since the fill tube is in an awkward position. On the Berk motorhomes, there is a 10 gallon DEF tank in one the compartments with an upward opening door in which there is very little space to place a DEF container in order to fill it. Also, it is in the back of the coach and on the opposite side of most of the pumps. That is the dilemma that we are talking about.
If I may isn't easy to just look at the gauge to see how low it is. I think it's a 13 gallon tank, and as far as fill up use the pump. DEF in all my stops are in the truck lane anyway you have a fuel door on both sides so use the side that the DEF tank.🐸
