The Eagle has landed!!!

Well, what a heluva trip...... AKA the trip from hell.

Glad that one's in the "can", as they say. In 15K miles total travelling in this coach since I bought it on election day, 2012, this was the absolute worst trip of all.

Two full days of driving in on-again-off-again rain; about five 10-15 minutes periods of heavy downpour. Rest of the time, just enough that I had to constantly "play" with the wiper control switch. Either to much water for intermittent setting or not enough for low/high operation. I must really becoming a ***** if I can't find more to complain about than that!! Still, it'll wear ya down after awhile

Low clouds, fog and dismal, dreary skies; just mostly crappy weather. HIGHLY unusual weather for this part of the country where the summertime rule of thumb is low humidity and clear blue skies 95% of the time.

Of course, you all know about the other little "incident", which only added to the misery. What a PITA!

Then had to go over a 6 mile stretch of Colorado State Hwy 9, which was completely unpaved. DOT had it torn up and with the rain, was just a muddy nasty collection of washboards and deep potholes. 'Bout shook poor old Snooty to her foundations.

Spent second night on the road (last night) at Leadville, CO right at 10,000 ft. Dumpy little park, but for a one nighter and still pouring rain it was good enough. Just lemme get in bed and lick my wounds.

Arrived around noon today in Buena Vista, CO. Weather lovely, great park and cheap ($400 per month), so here we'll sit until the end of Sept. We are temporary "Bewnies" as the locals prefer to call themselves here.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

Boowho??

Boo,
Sorry you ran into lousy weather but sounds like you landed in a nice spot. Hope you have nice weather for the remainder of your trip. Know what you went through. We had a full day of heavy rain when we were travelling to the FR International Rally. A real PIA!
Tom
ps- you didn't mention the 'no start' condition. (LOL!!)

Wow, We left Valley Mobile Park in Buena Vista just this morning.
Get your long johns out, it's been chilly and windy at night.

We didn't go far, just over to Colorado Springs.

Be sure to stop at the AF Academy. I was a civilian employee there about 40 years ago. Great place to visit and FREE!

As far as cool; I used to live in this area, so know well about the weather here. Remember, Coloradoans consider anything over 70 degrees to be "hot". Heck, back in Thayne, WY (where I just came from), we had a frost in late JULY!! We're used to (and love) cooler weather; except in January of course when I'll be in Yuma, AZ

Did you happen to get over Independence pass; most of last years snow should be gone by now. Just in time to be ready for THIS year's snow. IIRC, Independence is right at 12K feet. Separates the men from the boys; sea level is for sissies as we say out here.

We almost got over the pass. We went past Twin Lakes and there was some type of bicycle rally going on and traffic was at a crawl. We were over 10K and I couldn't breathe

Oh yes..... The bicycle rallies..... This is my favorite story about those. 20+ years ago I got caught in one with several thousand bikes going over Monarch pass.... You may know where that is; not that far from BV.

Anyhow, I'm coming down the eastern side (US 50, going toward Salida) doing 42 MPH with a single bicycle in front of me and a semi-truck in front of him.

I remember the 42 MPH because I checked the speedo IMMEDIATELY after the nut case on the bicycle PASSED the semi!!!

I remember thinking that the silly little helmet he was wearing would not do much for him when those tandem trailer wheels rolled over his head.

Maybe the difference between open or closed casket, but that would be it.

take a couple of aspirin per day for a few days when you flatlanders come to our fine state. Helps your blood hold O2 better. My doctor told my that as he takes his scout troops up 14'ers on a regular basis.
Just the opposite for me when I go to surrounding states the air is so thick I can hardly pull it in.
Enjoy Colorado.

They appear to be closed..... Possibly for renovation or something like that, but no signs, etc out front.

Been wanting to try since you mentioned it, but no joy. I first tried Labor Day weekend.
