Tires Off the Ground

So we pulled into our spot at salt Fork Ohio and to level, the rear tires are off the ground by two or 3 inches. Has anyone done that before or see any harm in it since were not going to get another spot because the campground is full for the weekend

I've done it several times with one side of the tires. Don't see any issues, jacks should hold it fine.

I know this doesn't help your tire question but Salt Fork was our main campground we went. We always got on ODNR website and reserved the full hook up sites 6 months in advance. Not sure if you knew you could reserve. Salt fork is a beautiful Ohio State Park!

Kenny,
This is a bad idea! The rear axle and tires are where the parking brakes are located so you do not have anything holding your coach in place. I would never park and have any of my wheels off the ground. I would move to another site or if none are available where you are camping, ask for a refund and move to another campground.

DANGER:

With REAR tires off the ground, you have no parking brakes!

Your rig is free to roll off the jacks.

It's OK if the fronts are a few inches off the ground, but both rear tires need to be solidly on firm ground.

Great point about the parking break! Never crossed my mind.

Yes we reserve the site six months ago. we weren't aware of it being so unlevel. we always come to salt Fork for years but this is the first time we've had this particular spot

See about getting some blocking to drive the back tires onto. Maybe someone can explain how the coach can "roll" when the tires are not on the ground. Slide, maybe. Wouldn't a couple tire chocks in front keep that from happening? Don't really know how much of an angle it would take to raise the rear tires off the ground. My personal opinion, if the stab jacks had something to "bite" the ground with, I don't see a problem.

As others have said, not a good idea. I once saw a Holiday Rambler DP in a park with it's rear wheels off the ground. A few days later, for some reason the coach shifted forward, and twisted the jacks so bad they had to call for someone to come out and remove the jacks before they could drive it. hydraulic fluid all over the place, a real mess and very expensive mistake.

That is exactly the point. It its that uneven it certainly can sift and be very costly. My rule is all six are on the ground Or I find s new campground. I do not like my airbags hanging in the air either. I have been told by F L to never do that ever. Let see it rain then see hoe secure you feel. My vote is move. If you want to built a wooden platform remember you are supporting 33000 plus lbs. a couple of 2x4 s are not going to cut it.

Equalizer says do not raise your coach off the ground!!! I carry wood ramps if I get in this situation. If the coach shifts you will destroy a $5000 jack system and will probably also not be able to close main slides.

For the time being, I used my yellow blocks and drove the rear wheels up on those.
I should be able to run into town tomorrow and get some boards

unlevel site

So for reference what is the site number that is so unlevel? It is hard to tell how level some sites are from the ODNR site to reserve campsites. We are considering a trip to Salt Fork as it is close for us. We don't need to be sleeping up hill though! Thanks!

are you using the auto level? You can do much better manually in a situation like that.

Lower the front until they just touch the ground.
Then lower the rear enough to make it comfortable but still keep the tires on the ground.

G29. It's deceiving as it doesn't "look" bad.

Dan:

I always start with auto level and then touch up manually.

The yellow blocks seem to be working for now.

Thanks.

Salt fork is a great park for thanksgiving if weather is good! No one there so you have the place to yourself to hike.
