The surge brake is a proportional mechanical system that is built into the tow bar. It uses a cable linkage that connects to the Jeep's brake pedal. When the motorhome starts to slow down, the weight of the Jeep presses against the surge brake mechanism in the tow bar, causing it to pull on the cable activating the Jeep's brakes.
