Trans temp.

Ok I'm not overly concerned about this not curious. When we left Florida the Trans temp would get up to 190 and sometimes over 200 whit a max I saw at 210. When we were further north with cooler temps I see a temp of 170 on the average. The temp varies a lot. When climbing a 5% 5 mile grade it was around 200.
What do you all see on your rig. I have the 340 HP motor with the 2500 Trans.

Would look at ambient temperature changes compared to trans temp changes and see if they are in line. That's typically the case.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about to me based on the temperature that I see indifferent to Terrain.

I didn't either but I don't remember seeing the large temp swings I saw this trip. Probably just never noticed it before. I know the air temp can make a big difference.
Has anyone added auxiliary Trans cooler?

Phil...

I don't understand why FR didn't put the 3000 transmission in all the Berk's.... I have it I. Mine and have never noticed any temp issues, even when climbing steep grades or towing.....

If I had done my homework and not depended on a salesperson for my info I would have a 3000 Trans. Oh well I don't and really most of the time it's fine. We are traveling from Florida to Michigan and we full time so right now we are very heavy. We also were on the road for three days so I had full water. This is the time I miss the hp.

170 - 200 is typical operating range. Sustained temps of 225 and above is when the fluid starts to break down and the life of your tranny shortens.

Thanks. I figured that. I was surprised by the way it varied. Actually I'm surprised by how much engine temp varies. Nothing like a gas powered engine.

This is incorrect according to Allison Transmissions with the transynd 295 the breakdown temp is higher. Our motorhomes are not pickup trucks and the transmissions are different. This information is in the manual. Mine is out of reach at the moment but I researched it as I had seen a chart that said 210º was overly hot and caused damage (put out by a Transmission rebuilder for cars)I found in the manual I think was close to 250º before it shortened the fluid change interval and much higher for transmission damage. I'll see if I can find the manual in the next day or so. To give the correct info.

Wayne, you have a 360 or 380 hp in a 15 Berk XL, if I'm not misinformed

Paul Yes I have a 360 in the Berk but I have not had any temp issues in it but did in my previous unit (non Berk) I was referring to.

If you have a tranny cooler, you should be just fine. Modern synthetic transmission fluids don't start to breakdown until much higher temperatures are reached. I check mine every oil change and change it when it starts to darken.
