That's the problem. No dealers in my area handle Forest River warranty work. Still trying to find someone whose old setup is/was the same as mine and what had to be done to install the new box.

Can't seem to find any mobile repair men in this area.

What year is your coach? Did they have to make any modifications when installing the new switch?

They had to bore new holes in the box to accommodate the way the rig is wired. I have a 2011. How about trying an electrician, just have forest river ship you the part?

Nice one Billy now your going to get Tom started again.
Tom did you know Matt is gone? New guy's name is Mitch same phone number. I've been trying to get ahold of Randy but he's been out boat of the last couple weeks. He had surgery on his foot.
If you had a local electrician that would put "RV Tech" on his letterhead would the go for that or is there a approved list they work of from.

Talked with Mitch today, seems like a good guy, very helpful. He doesn't have an email yet but is running off of Matt's for now but any day he'll have his own set up. As Phil said, same number though. He's organizing the work with my local dealer here(northern Ontario, Canada) here so hopefully that will get done soon.

I spoke to Mitch today as well. Nice fellow. Because there is no authorized repair shop within 300 miles of Houston(just a small town), they will allow for two hours of shop labor to replace the switch. I will contact my local shop and have them make the arrangements.
Thanks FRF

Phil,
Yes- I spoke to Matt a couple of weeks ago and he told me that he was leaving FR but to please not post it at that time. I haven't spoken or had any dealings with Mitch as yet. I have a local electrical contractor coming today to see what he thinks. Will keep everyone informed.

Billy,
Just PM'd you. Would it be possible to post a picture of what the new switch looks like after the install?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Billy's installation looks the same as mine. I looked under mine, in the battery compartment, and other areas, but could not find what I thought was additional wire being added, but I'm not an electrician.

Good luck!

Craig,

I guess our coaches are alot different from each other. My battery compartment is in the passenger side as is the inverter compartment. The electric hookup is, naturally, on the drivers side. The electrician said that they would need to modify the metal case of the new switch in order to be able to hook up the wires. Not crazy about that idea!

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

You are right, even though they are both bunk houses. All my electrical stuff is on the drivers side. Like you I wouldn't be excited about your option. I also wouldn't excited about a fire in my unit either. Best of luck. Did you happen to buy your unit from RV Direct?

Craig,

Yes, I did buy from RV Direct. Shopped around and could not find a better price. It was about an 8 hour drive for me, but the price difference made it worth while. I also allowed me to stop in Syracuse on the way home to see my son and his family.

I was looking inside the old switch and it looks like brand new. No 'browning' or charring of any of the wires inside the box. Looks perfect.

Did you buy from RV Direct also? WNYTAXMAN (aka Ed) also has a bunkhouse and bought from RV Direct. He lives just outside Buffalo.

Well, I guess I will need to take a look around the under side of the coach by the electrical compartment to see if there is a way of maybe moving one of the wires.

We'll see what comes out of my investigation.

Tom

Had the new transfer switch installed yesterday and noticed a hum when on shore power. Don't remember the old one doing that. Has anyone else noticed a hum from the new switch?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Have not heard a hum, but the first time the thing got turned on, I heard a whole bunch of clicks, like it engaging or whatever. My first thought was okay here comes trouble. Nothing after that, works fine. Now you are going to have me listening for a hum..;-)
