Travel plans

I need some advice. I am taking vacation in August and can with head north west to Lake Michigan or go south to the mountains of North Carolina. Any opinions on what is the better trip?

Having lived in NC in August I would head to my home state of Michigan. West Michigan is has the best beaches. From South Haven to Mackanaw is just beautiful. Lots of fun towns to visit. Saugatuck, Grand Haven, Muskegon, Ludington, Traverse City, Petoskey all great places to visit with awesome beaches.

Michigan beaches are great. We stayed in Empire Michigan at Indigo bluffs campground. Stay in the class A section. Best campground we have been to. Nice area to explore.

Absolutely agree. Maybe the most beautiful beach anywhere.

I have to agree with Michigan and Indigo Bluffs RV resort. Great place to stay and see sleeping bear dunes. Some great resorts up by Petoski also.

We went to Michigan in 2014 and loved it. South Carolina was too hot that year.

Better sunrises but no sunsets on your side. Lol. I do need to head that way soon. I would love to see it from that side. Also Door county is in my list.

We really need to get to Michigan sometime in the future.... we have seen their commercials.... it looks great!
Whichever direction you decide on, TripAdvisor.com is great for the "Things to do" section of their website. Just type in what city you are going to and plenty of useful info comes up. We have found museums and attractions that usually don't even advertise and the "reviews" on each place help a lot.
Good Luck on making your final decision!

If your thinking about western Michigan in August, start making your reservations now, If you can still get some. Besides state parks or Private RV parks, check for county parks also. Getting sites during the week should be no problem, on the weekend it may be a crap shoot. I didn't search in western Michigan last week, but I was able to get a site for the weekend of July 29+30 at a state park and a site for the weekend of Aug 19+20 at a county park. both in Eastern Michigans thumb area. All state parks have some sites that are first come basis but not very many large enough to handle a big RV.

If your looking for full hookups, RV Parks are your best bet. Only a few state parks have full hookups but many of the county parks do.

Hope this helps, ShermanD
