I have the 340 and it works well. Do I wish I had more power, sure but I'd likely say that with 600hp. The 340 pushes it well. The 360 with the MH3000 tranny is definitely a better set up but if the deal is good, don't let the 340 slow you down. It's impressive for a baby cummins and you'll never really have power issues.

dave-g; I have put 43,000 miles on my 2012 340 hp Berk. I have done a 10% grade. For sure, the extra torque of the 360 would help. If I had to do it again, I would get the 360; not for the HP, but because it has the Allison 3000 tranny (not limited to 33,000 lbs) and the 360 moho has less weight issues then the 340 hp.

Good info comparing the 340/360. The 3000 tranny seems to be a lot more desire able but at what extra cost?

lots of good info- thanks. Less afraid of the 340hp, but I'm going to keep looking for the 360 for that 10,000 lb tow rating.
Lucky for me I have time- the search is 1/2 the fun.
the 360hp seem to be about $5-$10k more, if you can find one.
I bet when new the 340 hp must have sold 10-1 over the 360hp model.

If I remember correctly the 360 package was like $32,000 more, but it came with aluminum wheels, 3000 Allison transmission, more tow capacity, 12,000 lbs front axle, and larger tires. I'm probably forgetting some things.

The 5,000 or 10,000 lb tow rating is the hitch rating. The GCWR is the combined total weight maximum of loaded moho and toad. For the 340hp, GCWR is 33,000 lbs and is also the max the 2500 MH Allison will handle.

The 12000 lb axle and 275 tires did not start until 2014. Before that all Berks 340 and 360 with the cummins motor came with 10400 lb FA. This does not include the several small runs if different packages we see out there.

Tile polished or not was available on 2010-2013 340 and 360 packages. This is on of the main reasons that the RB and BH are often overweight.

All Berks have the same hitch installed. They state that the 340's only have a tow rating of 5K due to the GCVWR of 33K. You can technically tow more than 5K but need to ensure you keep your GCVWR under the 33K.

No technically- the 340 has a 5000 lb tow rating from the manufacture- the 360 a 10,000. all berks with the 2500 trans have a 5000 lb tow rating. the hitch is not the limiting factor- but the trans and the manufactures rating is.

The tow rating for the 340 hp is dictated by the mh2500 transmission, thereby 5000# towing limitation. The 360 hp has the mh3000 transmission allowing 10,000 tow capacity.

Correct on the rating from the manufacturer but what I stated was the hitch itself is the same as the 360 has. Technically it all comes down to GCVWR. If you're not loaded down in the coach say 27K, you could tow more than the manufacturer rating say 6K as long as you keep it under the 33K like I said. Just like if you're heavy say 29K, you can't actually tow 5K you'd be limited to 4K.

Didn't you state the exact same thing twice? I totally agree with you. In fact a had a very good hitch guy look at my hitch and that was his opinion also. They are the same hitch in both applications.
