Turbine Blues

Has anybody had to replace the turbo on their Berkshire? I did a search on the forum and only came up with one other instance.

My dealer called and said the turbo is bad on the ol' girl and is the cause of the hesitation I have been experiencing in stop and go traffic. A 2008 with 40K on the odometer. Not sure if this is a one off or a known common problem?

I said to my wife the warranty on the coach just paid for itself!

I have not heard of another failure. Good for you that you have extended warranty. Just for grins it would be interesting to know what one costs.

I'm betting on it not being turbo. Don't know what it is ?? Small air leak in boot ?

I had a hose to my turbo go on my 2014 Berk about a month ago. We lost boost pressure and engine break. Parts and labor were covered by warranty, part was $59 labor was $200....
If you're experiencing a hose loss you will hear the air when the turbo should engage as well as when the engine break was to engage.

I dropped it off last week. Plan to pick it up in the next couple of days. Once I have final prognosis I will update.

I was told 3K just for the turbo alone, not counting peripherals and labor. It had received a new waste gate in the spring and that solved my issue for a short time then it came back again on our summer trip.

The waste gate probably has a build up of rust around the shaft and it is getting stuck open, dumping the potential boost. Any competent mechanic that knows turbos could pull it apart and free it up. Turbos are rebuilt everyday and you could even find rebuild kits on the Web and do it yourself. The problem is there are not many real mechanics around anymore so they'd rather swap out the whole unit. Unfortunately this is at the customers expense. Unless there was complete bearing failure or cracked housing, they're rebuildable.
I understand the OP is covered under a warranty but I thought I'd post for others too, or incase the warranty doesn't cover it.

I picked up the Berk and it is running well. Hesitation is gone and great low end power again. It received a new Turbo. Covered under our extended warranty 5K installed cost - $50.00 out of pocket expenses for the deductible.
