So, those clicking sounds on mine were bad gearbox. Took the ceiling panel down and saw this gearbox slightly deformed at the seam of the housing and the noises were clearly coming from it.

Ran me around $78 and took 1-1.5 hours to install. Now I have to figure out how to attach the trim that I had to take off in the bedroom. It was nailed and glued.

I drilled a 3/8" pilot hole for screw heads and then a smaller hole for the screw shanks.. I also got some silicone to replace what I scraped off for the back of the trim. I'm in the process of staining some wooden plugs to place in the 3/8" pilot holes.
My scare is if it failed once, what's going to keep it from happening again.
Good luck

Haven't had to do it yet but when my trim comes off it's going back on with industrial velcro.

From what I read online people are consistently having a problem with gearbox, cable and the shaft between the motor and gearbox (with shaft being the most common fail point), so I am pretty certain that I need to make it easily accessible. Definitely not gluing and nailing it back.

I am thinking about using keyhole hangers instead of drilling through holes though. I will be gluing thin foam weatherstrips to prevent the panel from rattling and sliding off.
