Warning to all GMAC/Good Sam policy holders

Just received my renewal for my Good Sam/GMAC motor home/auto insurance. The rate for the next policy year went up $1200!!No accidents. No addreass change. Nothing changed!! When I called they just said that there was a rate increase, and that's the rate!

An increase of $1200 for a year- I don't think so!!
That's what I get for being a 'Valued Customer' as printed on the top of the billing page. I hate to see what the rate increase will be for those that are NOT valued customers!

Not a fulltimer either!
Searching for a new company now.

Just thought that everyone should be on the lookout for a possoible rate increase.

I've used Interstate of Hawaii ( go figure that name) for over 15 years now for M/H's. Always fair and reasonable. My policy isn't as much as your increase! That's for a Georgetown. Holding on to my seat, trend or goof?

Did you have any natural disasters in your area in the past year? I do know that, there are premium increases in areas, that do have had natural disasters. Our premiums are always going up, here in eastern Colorado because of all the hail storms we get. Or if there are bankruptsies in your district. There are several factors. A lot of them I think are stupid.

VinceU,
do you have a web site link for this company? When I do a search, I get all types of hits for interstate roads in Hawaii.
Thanks.

That is just crazy! How is anyone suppose to go and enjoy their new toys with increases in premiums like that?

Not that I like paying insurance that keeps going up,but if claims continue rising so must the premiums.

I bet the employees wished they were on "the big Island" right about now. Nice folks here and there. Good luck, sounds as if the big guys are wanting to get rid of fuel guzzlers.

I use Progressive. Very happy with them so far. We pay $1,081 per year. Based on a $90,000 replacement price (we had a trade-in). Other coverages:

Included in Comprehensive and Collision:
Fire Department Service $1000
Emergency Expense $750
Vacation Liability $10,000

I hit something with my boat last year and Progressive totaled it. I had a check from Progressive within a week. And that's only having them for a few months after moving from State Farm!

I use an independent agent but I believe you can go online and do it yourself as well.

I use Progressive as well and have been blown away by their awesome customer service. Reasonable, fast, responsive, friendly...all things hard to find these days.

GMAC is having their 'underwriters' look into my policy. They can't seem to explain why the over 60% rate increase. Will post their response when I hear from them.

I dropped State Farm because they were having terrible issues here in Florida with previous hurricanes and were looking to get out. They raised everyone's rates hoping they would leave the company so I made their wish come true.
We compared Progressive with Geico for all our cars and a Georgetown XL. Looking for 250/500,000 and full replacement cost. Geico was ahead by a few hundred but YMMV and what state counts.

I had posted the fact that when I got my renewal for my GMAC/Good Sam policy that my yearly rate had gone up $1200/year, an increase that is way out of line. I was waiting for their 'underwriters to review my policy' to see where the discrepancy was. Well, I spoke to GMAC/Good Sam insurance today and guess what, I was told that 'the rate is what it is. We have had a number of losses and need to make up the shortfall'. Well, you aren't going to make it all back on me. Needless to say, I will be looking for a different insurance company.

Crazy, sounds like State Farm wants out of RV business. Good Sam marketing arm?
Good luck!

Just a follow up to my original posting-
After some back and forth with GMAC, we heard back that the rate is what it is because they had 'recoded' our motor home. Not sure what that means except that it was their way around the state insurance agency's regulations on how much they can increase rates in a given year. So, instead of being able to raise the rates between 11% and 15 % (the increase approved by the state), by 'recoding' our motor home they were able to raise our rates over 60%.
We have had a motor home since 1984 and NEVER have we had such a large increase in premiums. I don't know how GMAC can get away with this. Hopefully GMAC will lose a good many customers after reading about my problem with them and people will move to other insurers.
You can be sure, because of this huge increase, we will not be renewing with GMAC.
