Water Filtering......?

So, for us new 'full-timers' with two little girls (8 & 5yrs) what's the best water filtering setup? Carbon + Sediment + Water Softener?
Over-kill.... Under-kill....

I'm not full time YET, but when we finally make the move, we will have all that you mentioned.
Especially the water softener for the clothes washer. I'm guessing there will be camp grounds that has very hard water.
Right now, we use two filters. One of the inline type we buy at WalMart, and the other is the whole house filter for the coach. Then the residential fridge adds another one, so when we get water from there (or ice cubes) it's triple filtered.
It's all for peace of mind.
Good luck in your full-timing. I'm jealous I can't go yet.

For what it's worth I use a two canister system. One for sediment and the other is a carbon. Picture of filters included.

To the best of my knowledge, most campgrounds are connected to a local water system. These systems are highly regulated for water quality, so I don't worry about it very much. What I did was to install a 10" carbon filter beneath the sink. This is the water we make coffee with, wash dishes with, etc...

I don't worry about the other water fixtures in the camper.

Davidg, I wouldn't go that far in saying that," These systems are highly regulated for water quality". We stay at a campground in Southern Alberta just about every time we go out there, which is every other year. Now they do say boil the water. The last time we stayed there I did what I always do, brush my teeth with their water & shower. Never boiled it and did that many times in the past. Bottled water was used for coffee, tea, etc. I do have a whole house filter in the 5er as well. Well wouldn't you know it, I got "beaver fever". It's a parasite in the water. I think it's called Giardiasis or something like that. It's a great weight loss diet that you don't want to be on. I lost 20 lbs in 12 days. Now that time we were there they were in the process of digging a new well, so things may have changed. I though the way you do but now I'm a bit more wary about what I do with water at a campground. You ask for the Best Setup (Supply point after spraying with bleach solution then run thru a 5 micron sediment cartridge in a (see thru) housing/then run thru a 5 micron Carbon cartridge/ then run thru a (Osmosis System) this is only for the (Drinking Water)! The water for (Non Drinking) use you can bypass the Osmosis system and run the water thru a (Water Softener System)! Youroo!!

Dang Pipeman! That's horrible. Sorry you went through all that. We camp in Louisiana about 90% of the time, and Louisiana's DEQ is very strict on water systems. They have monthly reporting requirements, and if anything goes wrong, they have to let their customers know immediately. So, each water system, knowing the penalties,do a good job of self monitoring. Louisiana certainly does some things badly, but they do a good job of monitoring water quality.

I should consider that other states might not be as strict. Sometimes we have noticed an off taste to some water. We carry bottled water for those situations.
I will certainly keep your experience in mind in the future.

We use a pre filter then a water softener then the house filter. We full time and have found sand and sediment in the pre filter several times. I also have seen before the softener a build up of lime on the quick disconnects. That convinced me I needed a softener.

When hooked up to City Supply does that run through the whole house filter; or, is that filter only filtering the fresh water tank?

Nathan drain your water filter then hook up to city water. If the filter fills up you are filtering incoming water. I suspect you are as well as filtering water you add to the tank.
