Water in Girard water heater compartment

Every time it rains I get about 1/4 inch of water on the floor of my water heater and it will not heat water. The water heater will go on for a second or so and then it shuts off. I need to go out and dry out the water heater and after several cycles it will finally light and stay on. Has anyone else had this issue?

Phil,
It only happens when it rains and water gets into the water heater. As long as the weather is nice I don't have any issues. Been happening for a while but as I said, only when it rains.
Hope all is well.
Tom
