Well it happened - bottom bay latch broke
Went to close bay door and I didn't hear anything click. I thought something was in the way but upon further investigation the plastic piece broke. I have extra latches but how do I remove it? Help !

Looks like it is riveted on.
If it is then use a drill and bit to remove both of them.
Be careful to not drill very deep.
You can the install the new one with self tapping screws or if you have a pop rivet tool rivet the new on using the same holes.

Not riveted. Uses torx. Question is how to slide out the broken latch with the curve of the door.

This is apparently a known problem.....
What I have done is get into habit of never slamming the doors, but to pull the latch mechanism when closing the same as I do when opening. In other words it's a two handed operation; pulling on the latch while pushing on the door.
Also a small dab of grease on the nylon latch bolt helps too..... This is a case of where an ounce of prevention......well you know the rest.
As far as getting the old latch, I'd suspect that the door will have to be taken apart (rivets drilled out and then re-riveted) ?
Boowho??

Had one break and never figured out how to remove due to the curve of on the bottom, dealer was no help either. Ended up putting on a latch on the outside. Maybe someone at FR knows how to replace besides taking the door apart.

I spoke to my dealer and he stated I need to use a 90 degree tool to undo the bolts. He said it will clear the curve ( barely ). In his words " it's a pain in the ass but doable). I'm taking her hunting this coming Thursday so I'll try to fix it by then.

Are there any torx screws on the hinged end/top?

I know that they make a screwdriver that is shaped like an elongated 'z' where there are, on mine anyway, Phillips heads on each point of the z.
Just found this. Might solve the problem.
Right Angle Screwdriver and Bit Set 8pcs
Also, where did you buy the replacement latches?

Didn't have a problem getting the torx head screws out, just used a small wratched with a torx head to get them out. The problem we ran into was getting the assembly out due to the curve on the bottom of the door. Was not going to bend the door bottom to get it out and the skin of the door dosen't come off that I could see.

Took a look at my doors..... Looks like the screws to take the door apart are on TOP of the door; under the hinge.... You have to raise the door all the way up to be able to get to them. This is on doors that swing UP; not sideways.
This would entail removing the piston assemblies first I'd imagine.
But getting the door apart without ruining it does look do-able.

I don't believe that the doors come apart. As far as I know, the door is glued together. I had dented the water bay door and asked the body shop if they could remove the dents and repaint it. They said that it could not be done and that a new door would need to be ordered, which is what I ended up doing.

Thanks Tom..... You are probably right since you've gotten into it more than I. Seems like gluing is DUMB though.

Yes they glue/sticky tape the bay door skin. My skin is coming loose on my bay door on the passenger side where the water pump is. I had to tape it close so it would not get worse and possibly fly off.
