WH pops circuit breaker

Every time I flip the switch for electric water heating it pops the circuit breaker under the bed.

The CB is only 15 amps. Is that big enough for a water heater??

Boowho??

I moved your issue to a new thread so it won't be confusing with the other answers.

15 amps is WAY big enough. The water heater element only pulls 1000 watts (about 8 amps at 120 volts AC).

I am betting your have a shorted out element or a damaged thermostat (if it is tripping overload).

It is also possible you have a bad socket if the GFCI is tripping.

yes the 15 amp breaker is enough. there must be a short somewhere or that breaker is running something else. is anything else not working when that breaker is off? if the element has burned out, it would not normally be expected to be shorted, but maybe a wire has melted or something.

Thanks guys..... Now that I know it's not a under-rated CB, I'll investigate further. I've got so many honey-doos on the thing right now, it's pathetic.

Two pieces of trim to re-attach from moving a slide when something was in the way. I'll tell you those mechanisms are POWERFUL!! Ripped a little bedside cupboard out slicker than snot on a porcelain doorknob.

Then when the airbags didn't inflate and I got the mechanical bull ride, the main closet hang up bar collapsed under the strain. Gotta fix THAT!!

Ugh!!!

I hope to be settled in my "summer location" probably in Northern ID in a few days; then have time for all this "stuff".
