What is the funny black thing beside my Berkshire faucet rough-in? A vacuum break for
In a recent thread, I describe the installation of a Delta Tempassure shower faucet in my Berk 34QS. While installing the Delta Rough-in, I saw a pair of water pipes coming up to a black plastic unit beside the original rough-in.
The attached photo shows the original Berkshire 34QS shower rough-in with the extra plumbing with a black cap on top. The next photo shows the top of the cap, which says it is a B&B Model 571. It is only for use in an RV. In the background of the photo is my new Delta rough-in.
It is held by a plastic tie to the pipes coming into the shower rough-in. I believe that this is a vacuum break for the black tank flush on my Berk, and wonder if others can confirm that this is correct. This item is in the wall between the bedroom and bathroom of my Berk. The black tank flush inlet is on the outside of my Berk, approximately in line with this unit. And, I do think I heard it making a buzzing sound when I was flushing the black water tank.
I do notice that disconnecting the hose to my black water flush does result in a bunch of clean water coming back out of the connection, so I assume that the black unit I see is dividing the water that flushes into the tank from clean water that flows back out after flushing.
Am I right? Googling the part number suggests that I am right. But, I want to make sure I am right, since it affects winterizing and sanitation.
