Windows 8.1 question

I have a fairly new Dell Inpsiron laptop (maybe 9 months old) with Windows 8.1 installed. For those of you who have 8.1 installed, do you know how to stop the clock on the bottom left and the menu along the right hand edge from appearing all the time? It seems that when I am surfing the web and move the cursor, these items appear even though I am no where near the area (upper right hand corner) that would make these appear. I can't seem to find anywhere where I could adjust the sensitivity to prevent this from happening so often. As an FYI, the laptop also has a touch screen.

Thanks

Hello Tom,

There are a couple potential things here that may be at play. I had a similar annoyance with these items popping up and I found the best way to get rid of them is a small utility called "Winaero Charms Bar Killer". Look it up on Google - a small but useful download. (You can control these through Windows - but this little app makes it easy to change settings later - just full disclosure)

Since this is on a laptop, it is likely you're using a touchpad. The touchpad has "hot" corners also. These hot corners on the touch pad will also bring up these items. It is easy to solve that - go to Device Settings, Mouse Control Panel and look for "ENABLE EDGE SWIPES" - uncheck that box and you should be good to go!

I use a wireless mouse. Put it right on the arm of my recliner.

I absolutely HATE the touchpad.
