A/C compressor sometimes fails to start

My a\c usually works great but occasionally the compressor fails to start. Fan comes on, blows a minute or two, then unit shuts down. Watching voltage readout tells me the compressor never attempts to start. Unit then rests for anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes then again attempts to restart. It may take up to 5 or 6 attempts before compressor starts, then unit runs great and may work normally after that. Any thoughts? Dometic 12.5k unit, Dometic digital thermostat.

Makes me think that the the thermostat is not telling it to kick in.

I suspected that too, but Dometic tech support was no help. I think I read on here of a thermostat recall. Failed to mention that I am second owner so no warranty even though only manufactured 9 months ago.

I hate those new dometic thermostats. With the old thermostats you could do a little troubleshooting and figure out where the problem was, but with the new digital communication models you have no way of doing that.

There have been reports of problems with the control boards causing the problem you're seeing.

Since it's on your dime, if you have to replace the control board, I think I'd replace it with the analog unit and a new LCD thermostat. You'll have to run new thermostat wire from the A/C to the t-stat location, but hopefully that isn't too much problem.
