A/C shutting off

Hello, I am currently camping in a campground with 30 amp service. It is 87 outside and 77 inside.

I have temp set to 72. The a/c has been running for about 1 1/2 hours.

It shut off once for about 2-3 seconds then came back on. The second time, I had to turn temp down 1 degree and then immediately turn it right back to 72 and it came on.

This does not seem right, nor does it being 77 in here seem right? (However it does not feel hot in here?)

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!!!

I'm not following you wth "this does not seem right". You have the unit set to 72 and it running and has your rig at 77 so far, 1.5 hours is not much time when it comes to removing heat. What are you expecting to happen?

It is not a refrigerated system. Takes several hours to cool down. Your sticks and bricks won't cool that fast!

A/C shutting off

Thank you! What about it shutting
off and coming back on (by itself - I can see it if the temp had come down to set temp)

As for my UN realistic expectations for temp drop, it's probably because we had a small truck camper for the previous 9 years - still getting used to the difference

Thanks

Mine does the same when cooling for the first time. After it cools enough, then it works normal. May be the nature of the beast.

Which brand of A/C do you have?

The new Dometic units shut the fan down to switch speeds when it gets within a few degrees of setpoint.

As said above these thin walled boxes coupled with these small A/C units take a while to cool down. It's not uncommon during the summer here in the south for two units to run full time and never reach setpoint.

I had a feeling it was something to do with the beast! It always cooled so I did not think much about it. Thanks for that info Bama!

Mine does the same. When the thermostat thinks it is within 5 degrees of the setting the fan switches from high to low. Last few times if it was hot out it would only stay for a minute or so and go back to high. To remedy this we just keep it on high until the sun goes down then switch to auto.

The old school rule was 1T of a/c for every 400 sq ft.
1T = 12000 BTUs These of course are sticks and bricks figures.

We don't have a high/low. It's. 15,000 heat pump digital temp setting

Our previous campers have the basic on or off. Bottom line, even with that shutting off once in a while, it's keeping it around 76 in here maybe 77

Outside color has a lot to do with temps during the day and shade has a effect.
