AC not blowing cold air

Just bought a 2014 Stealth Toy Hauler - used, everything worked until I got it home. Now the AC doesn't blow cold air. Tried shoreline power and generator, neither power source works. Talked to a service center and it takes 2 weeks for them to look at it. They said it sounded like the compressor's start module? $100 part and an hours labor, just have to leave it there for 2 weeks. Any suggestions?

If it's a Dometic AC, you can contact them directly, as it will be them that ultimately pays for it. You don't have to go through dealer or Forest River for components like that. It's under warranty, utilize it. If you don't already know of a mobile tech, Dometic will try to find one and you can have them come to you to fix it. You'll have to pay for the service call itself, but usually that's a LOT cheaper than fuel and aggravation to bring it to a dealer.

Sounds like they have no idea what is wrong with it.

A start capacitor does not cost anywhere near that much and there are just a couple of screws and 3 or 4 spade connectors involved.

The big silver can with all the wires coming out the top is what they are talking about. A shop hour is anywhere from 100 to 250 dollars.

Arrgh.

What model AC do you have?

Caps run from 11 bucks to about 40 bucks depending on the model needed.

Heck, while you are in there put a hard start capacitor and a fan delay relay in so you can run your AC on a Honda 2000.

I have a 2014 Sandpiper. We bought it last September, so we didn't really use the AC until this summer. During our first above 90 degree camping trip, we noticed that the camper would not cool down very well. We have two Dometic AC's. Luckily a friend camping with me has an AC business, so he had some equipment to fix it with him. It turns out that both AC's were not fully charged with 410a freon. He had a tapping screw that could tap into the sealed system to add the freon. The rear AC showed no sign of a leak, but the front AC had a small film of oil on the evaporator that could indicate a leak. I know I probably voided my warranty, but as hot as it was, I didn't care. The bottom line is they were both not fully charged and only blowing 5 degrees cooler than the intake. After charging them to the proper amount, they would blow about 22 degrees cooler than the intake or return air.
