AC short cycle

Just purchased a Cherokee 234, son in law has a GreyWolf. Both ac’s seem to short cycle now and then. With thermostats calling by several degrees, they will stop and restart within 30 seconds or less, sometimes more than once within a several minute period. Before picking up my unit, we were thinking loose connection somewhere. Now that mine is doing the same thing, we are wondering if this is experienced by others as well. Thought it might be cold air blowing on the thermostat as ac main vent is close. Closed them down and still experienced it. Also, anyone know if the Dometic thermostat has a built in time delay to protect the compressor?

Our 2018 Cherokee 304BS does the same thing. We purchased in April of 2017, I've been all through it and can't find a thing. Do you have the PMS...Power Management System in yours ? We have it with twin AC units and 30amp hookup. Still wondering if that has something to do with it. It does it even if we're only running one unit and the other one off...and both units do the same thing.

Not sure what I have yet. I’ll see if I can get a response from FR on it or have you already tried? If so maybe Dometic has an answer. I’m a retired ac contractor and it doesn’t sound good for the compressor to be cycling on and off that quick. May install a 3 minute time delay if it keeps up.

It's the norm for most newer units if you have it on auto/cool. The fan shuts down for a couple of seconds when switching from high to low. Piss poor system...

Ok, good to know. Then I would hope it is just the fan and not the compressor cycling with it. Is that correct?

My Dometic Penguin will do that, especially in the morning when on auto. The fan comes on and runs for a few seconds then shuts off and repeats in a few minutes. Compressor is not coming on so I think it's just sampling the air.

It can get annoying but an easy fix it to switch to the high fan setting.

Thanks! Don’t remember getting a thermostat book but will look or pull from online.

My AC's do the same thing and it can sometimes be annoying. Following this thread in case there is an explanation.

For A/C's in general, compressor cycling is a sign of low freon.

They do stop for a moment and sample air.
