Adding a external power switch for Genesis GT3.

Has anyone added an external power switch for the gt3. I know lots of people have had problems with them. I am assuming most of the problems are coming from the harsh environments these things are subjected to while still being powered. I was wondering if this might prolong its life by removing power while in storage? Any ideas.

I have a battery disconnect for the whole camper (genesis radio included) that I disconnect whenever I leave the camper sit without power for more than 2 days.

My last Sunnybrook camper had a main power disconnect also. I haven't ran across one on our 2011 flagstaff 831QBSS. I am curious if it has one also and I just haven't found it.

Strangely, likely not. They're easy to add. I blogged about installing mine:

I think it was the 2012 models Flagstaff started adding the cutoff sw. Our 11 V-Lite does not have one either so I added the Blue Sea Cut Off switch. Very cheap and easy modification.

I assume you are just putting it inline on the positive side of the battery.

I have our camper stored next to our house and normally leave it hooked up year round. I was just thinking about putting a switch in just for the entertainment system in the small storage cabinet beside it so I can cut it off when not in use. Hopefully preserving it. It gets rough camping with 5 kids without a DVD player.

Jm...I have a buddy that has a 831. If memory serves his disconnect switch is under the very front Left side(roadside) of the camper way up on the frame. That will at least kill all the power coming from the battery.
Now on our Windjammer 3006wk...when you cut the power with the battery switch and cut it back on the Gt3 appears to have no power at all....I.e. no vampire lights.
