Talking Adding Aux input to Concertone

The particular model of Contcertone in my Surveyor 291 has an auxiliary input, but I couldn't find how to use it.

After removing the unit, I noticed it had unused and capped right and left Aux-in RCA connectors.

Of course, this will not do! So, I devised a plan to remedy this.

Please see the photos in the next post below.

Installation

My primary goal for this mod was to provide an auxiliary input to the Concertone that would allow me to connect the TV or an MP3 player.

For this mod I bought the following:

1. An RCA wall plate
2. A stereo 3.5mm to RCA cable,
3. An RCA cable extension cord
4. An MP3 docking station.

In my TV cabinet, was enough space to add the RCA wall plate

You might be a redneck if you construction technique looks like mine.

I then fished the RCA extension cord through the walls and through wire chases in the ceiling over to the Concertone cabinet about 3-feet away.

Total mod time was about 90 minutes.

Please see the next post for the final product.

Final Product

Here is the result:

And it worked beautifully for playback from our MP3 player.

All I had to do on the Contertone was to press the function button to put it in "Aux" mode. Then all the audio on the wall plate plays back through the coach speakers.

When we watch a movie, all I have to do is unplug the MP3 player, and plug in the audio out from the TV for the same result.

It works. Considering that it is part of a larger travel trailer that was designed to be lightweight and inexpensive, I believe it lives up to the standard. My standards are low. I think I have shopped too much at Wal-mart.

While I have a flat panel tv mounted on the end cabinet by the door of our SV291, I have our DVD player in the tv box opening. I did the same as you and now have all movie audio play through the "house" system. We've never had the problems that others talk about with our Concertone stereo and unless it completely dies, we'll keep the camper as is.

Thank you, thank you, red.jimbo! We have been wondering why there was the AUX option but nowhere to plug in an MP3 or anything. Will definitely give this a shot. I see you're in what we refer to as "God's Country"; we used to live in Longmont and had a place in Dillon and would dearly love to be back there. Maybe when retirement hits.
