Air Conditioner
Purchased a 2019 Cherokee Wolf Pack toy hauler. Taking first trip next week so this week we are checking everything out. Heater works fine but when we change thermostat over to air conditioning, nothing happens except a click sound (like a relay) from AC ceiling grate. We reset thermostat back to factory settings and when we set it back to air conditioning again we heard a beep but Air never kicked on. Anyone have any suggestions? We are newbies to the travel trailer world and our toy hauler is brand new. Hoping we are overlooking something.

What power supply are you using? For AC the RV needs 120v with enough amps for the compressor to kick on, were most heaters can run off the 12v system. Otherwise I would your check the breakers.

You are hooked up to shore power? If yes then check if the AC breaker is "on".

When you run generator do you have any 120 volts appliances running: microwave, TV etc...

The joys of a new camper! I'm sure you will figure it out.
Your onan 4000 generator should have plenty of power for the AC, but what you are describing sounds like that there are not enough AMPs to get it to start. You might want to try shutting off all of the other breakers and give the AC another try.
I recall seeing another post on here about the generator's breaker being open when on their first outing with it.

When using the generator, some units have a transfer switch that automatically takes the 120V power from the generator (even if connected to shore power). On other units, you have to take the 30A shore power line and physically plug it into an outlet which is the power supply from the generator.

Yes, check the breaker on the onan itself, your talking about 2 different systems the furnace is 12v , and the A.C. is 110v. Sounds like your not getting 110v. Start the generator, then check a 110v outlet, if no power at the outlet , then check the breaker on the unit not in the TT panel.

okay thanks WD...although I found a circuit breaker under the TT that wasn't tripped...I will try one of the outlets and see if I have power to any of them.....would the breaker be on the unit or underneath the TT?

No the breaker is located on the Onan itself, I think you need to take the panel off and it's at the bottom, it's hard to see. The generator will run with it off but it will not supply 110v. Mine tripped for some reason and I couldn't figure out I wasn't getting 110v, I read the manual and discovered it. It was hard for me to see, but I think it was on the bottom right, but you need to pull the access panel off. Keep us informed, but it might save you a trip to the stealer.

I've had panel off already, they over filled the generator and it would run for about ten minutes and shut off....checked oil while it was hot and it overflowed and thought to myself this isn't right...thought the TT wasn't level and tried again....did the same...grabbed about 12 ounces out of generator and it ran fine for 2 hours without a glitch(besides the hard starting)...maybe it tripped when this happened....this forum has loads of information and good people willing to help a newbie out...ill keep you and everyone updated on my issue....and I hear you on stealership...trying to enjoy this toy hauler and have a trip planned this weekend albeit a short one ,,,just trying to get all the bugs out, thanks again WD

This may be a stupid question, but when you were trying to get AC to run, did you set the thermostat "BELOW" the ambient "AIR" temp so the system would call for the AC to run ??

You know that's weird right there on the oil. I just changed mine, it's easy to do, no oil filter or anything. Your suppose to change it after 25 hrs. I would change it now. You can go and get 2 qts. Of good 40 weight oil , it takes only 1 and a half qts. Then for sure you have it right. As far as hard starting pretty typical for new. Mine was to. Now it's better. Once you get this going remember to start it. Once a month for 2 hrs and have a half load to make it work. The more they work the better they get. Oh yes sometime I have to prime mine 3 times before it fires. Take care

WD I checked the breaker on generator and it wasn't tripped...checked the outlets in TT and they worked...still hear like a relay click but no air...dropped temperature down below air temp and nothing....I called the salesman and he went through same things everyone here including I done prior, was just hoping it was something minor I was overlooking but doesn't seem to be the case,im going away with it his weekend and weather looks like its gonna be in the 60's(fingers crossed)but ill take it back to the dealer next week.....thank you everyone for their help with my ac issue
