Air conditioner frozen up?

Fired up the a/c in my 2007 Rockwood the other afternoon and after an hour it had only cooled the TT from 89 degrees down to 87. Then the temp actually began to rise. Felt like a good cold flow at first. The flow stayed strong, but the coolness went down.

Thought maybe it had frozen up...but when I took the cover off in the cabin and looked as far up as I could with a flashlight I saw no signs of frost. Next thought was that a TT this old (which I just purchased six weeks ago) may have an a/c low on Freon. Or maybe the a/c is worn out and the whole unit needs replaced.

Went back this morning and it seemed to work fine. Cooled the TT from 81 degrees to 78 in 10-15 minutes. The unit cycled on and off a couple of times as it should once it reached the set temp.

So did it just freeze up on me and has thawed out now? Or do I have a more serious problem?

Doubt it froze up once and not the second time.
The only reason units will freeze is not enough freon or not enough air flow (fan).
So if you felt the same amount of air coming out as you do now, my guess is you have another problem.

When I checked the other day, the filter was obviously dirty, but I'm not sure it was bad enough to have a big effect on the air flow. I've cleaned it, so we'll see how if goes. If it happens again, I'll call in a pro.

On my walk thru, I was told that if the quick cool vent on the bottom of the unit was run in the open position for an extended time it would freeze up. I've never had it happen but can see where cold air circulating right back into the return may cause this.
Along the same line look in the filter area and see if there is an air leak back to the return. (I would look to see if there was a path between the quick cool vent and the return. Another possibility would be a temp switch on the coil which shuts off the compressor when the coil gets too cold. The fan will continue to run.
