I don't think insulation would help. The heat would still just be trapped inside of the cavity. I have now had several months to do other modifications and have fished wiring through the cupboards and through the floor for mood lighting inside and awning lighting outside.

Other thermostat solutions may be to relocate it. The end of the cabinet above the switch panel might work. You will have to extend the wiring there. The bottom of the cabinets is hollow, and there is a wire chase between the cabinets and the existing stereo/thermostat cavity. I have already fished that for my awning lights I put a pull string through it as it's no picnic to do.

There is also a floor cavity that can be fished to the other side of the camper. Also a lot of work. The fan solution seemed easy and still is working great.

I placed a piece of closed cell foam behind thermostat. It sealed up the wire hole and also brought thermostat away from the wall half inch. I helped allot and the ac will now kick off. There is still a 3 or 4 deg difference cause that wall sure does conduct some heat. I may do some fans in that compartment if I ever have to remove the genesis. I can't get it to come out cause of the wire plug being on the side. I guess id remove that panel where u have fans installed just so i could unhook video cable. Thanks

The best way to get the stat from drawing heat from that area,(which is really stupid of FR) is to seal the whole with spray form where the wires comes through. Granted you are picking heat up from the refer but it is causing the higher temp all the time. If you blow air in that area it will throw the stat off more. A digital stat would not help, unless you got one with a remote sensor and wired it in. Honeywell makes one but it's pricey. When I was in HVAC we had false reading all the time due to the whole the wires came through. I would try that first. The temp of the wall should not make that much of a difference. I just keep shaking my head at what these engineers come up with. Also your 3 to 4 degrees is a little. I think the tolerance is 1 to 3 degrees.

We drilled a pattern of holes around thermostat to let some heat out , also when we replaced with digital thermo the hole for the wires was huge so we covered it with duct tape and that kept a lot of heat from coming out onto thermo and it worked much better.

Oh thermostat. Sorry, most call it a thermostat not a switch. Here is a thread where one type is mentioned and a link. I bought mine on Amazon. Search "Coleman Mach" or "Honeywell" on this forum. Many results there.
